I kind of think of it like, the cause of Gae Bolg's strike is the "hit", so no matter how many times you erase the strike it'll just keep regenerating from the fact that it's already hit. Sort of like how you can't kill a phenomenon without destroying the cause of that phenomenon.

So if Bazette aimed Fragarach at GB, instead of aiming for Lancer...?

Probably not, if gae-bolg had already been activated. You might destroy it after it hit your heart maybe, but there is already an akashic record of getting killed.

But "there's no spear".

Everything you see after Gae Bolg is invoked is an illusion.

You can "destroy/intercept/negate" the spear all you want, nothing will work.

"You die" is the end result. You can do stuff, but to the World, the end result is already determined, the World will just alter the process accordingly so the result is reached.

Fragarach's entire concept is "lol I hit you first", so it's probably the only NP that actually hits before GB does. But yeah, you've got it in one.

Well as long as you have a heart it can target it will pierce you and than sprout its thorns, complitly destroying your insides. Even if Kotomine doesen't need his fake heart to live/survive, I doubt he would survive the thorns...
