Thread: [FGO JP Event] Valentine 2025

I mean it's like Bob Ross said. You need the light to have the dark. You can't have just one. Desires are only meaningful because we can't always have everything, and as a result we strive to have our desires fulfilled, instead of receiving instant gratification all the time. It's the Persona 5 Royal dilemma -- a perfect life isn't actually desirable because the imperfections are what allow us to grow as people.

something something, pain, rejection, struggles in general and so as much of a vital part of someone's life as happiness, success and so something something.

It would get too boring, or too painful if we go to the extremes lol.

Chapter 6: Ono Is Not All That Be

Komachi achieves her final form and she's clearly different. Too sacred for what was supposed to be a normal girl. Neither her nor Takamura explain what's going on. Kiichi is in the control room with da Vinci, commenting that her fears came true. Komachi is becoming Bodhisattva Kannon. Da Vinci can't believe what she's seeing because a Buddhist entity taking material form has no precedent as far as the Clock Tower knows. She thought they only ever interacted through separate incarnations or possessing someone's body. Mash figures out connection by remembering both the story of Komachi no Soushi and the concept of attaining Buddhahood through mastery of poetry. Komachi with her complete Saint Graph isn't a Heroic Spirit, she's a kind of Divine Spirit manifested without a limiting vessel. Mash tries to figure out the logic of this, but Kiichi advises that trying to make sense out of the bodhisattvas is a waste of time, hypocritical as this may sound coming from Maouson. Kiichi guesses that even THE Buddha himself could make himself summonable if there's one wholly unsalvageable soul in the world for him to offer his mercy to, but no way a guy like this exists lol.

Da Vinci is still full of questions about the nature of Kannon/Komachi as a Servant, but now it's not the time. Having attained her last piece—her Buddhahood—she now has no reason to remain in the lame mortal world instead of just immediately evaporating into Nirvana. Komachi begins to fade away. Locusta feels scammed for gathering pieces to get Komachi to stay only for her to leave anyway. Bodhisattvas can only be summoned or killed by their own choice, so there's no way to force physicality on her.

The non-Buddhist half of the party is unsatisfied with this idea of a "happy ending". The Buddhist half is just hopeless. The new girl will go away no matter what. Fujimaru is just bummed they never got to chat about romantic experiences with Komachi. That gives Nikitich an idea. She punches Takamura and tells him not to sit back and watch as his daughter goes away. He says the same thing he said to Beni: that he's just Komachi's Saint Graph's weapon without a will of his own. Nikitich gives up on the stubborn mule and urges Fujimaru to stop Komachi's termination somehow. Mash joins the protesting, saying that like Fujimaru, she also wants to gossip with Komachi about her love interests and get some good shoujo manga recommendations. Seeing all the movement, Kiichi finally decides to give some useful advice: the way to stop someone from going Buddha is hitting them with their unfinished business in the living realm. Human emotion and temper makes it difficult to achieve full independence of will. They need to make Komachi second guess if they want to keep her around. With this new information, they attack her.

[ <-Battle against Komachi and her five flowers, here titled Dreams of Romance Are A Distraction, The Heat of Romance Is A Distraction, The Hundred Nightly Visits Were A Sin, Go Through The Nine Stages of Decay, and And Then Become A Lotus. Komachi gains layers of damage reduction and assorted buffs depending on which flowers are still alive. -> ]

Physical violence did nothing to stop her sacred light from increasing. Mash begs Komachi to listen. She still has so much she wants to talk. About love, poetry, and about her father, Ono no Takamura. The Takamura mention is the first thing that makes Komachi react, but since he says nothing, she says she can't hear her father and continues to focus on her soul's release, deeming Takamura's mention as a distraction.

Nikitich declares it's Locusta's turn to give Komachi unfinished business. Locusta promises premium truffles for as long as she remains contracted to Chaldea, gets no reaction, and says her mistake was forgetting the Japanese would prefer matsutake. The timing for this mushroom joke is so bad that Nikitich's horse can almost respect Nikitich's commitment to the meme character grind. Osakabehime's turn. Hime goes on about all the conversations she wants to have with Komachi. See a pro at work and learn from that. Discuss their favorite stories. Have Murasaki, Sei Shounagon, and Komachi together in one room. Read Komachi's new releases.

Hime says a lot and nothing works. But she quickly understands why. She's only listing her own desires. Nothing she's saying touches on Komachi's self-direction. The way to give her unfinished business is… shoujo manga. Komachi has been reading them at every interval, but the library still has more masterpieces than she could read in a lifetime. Kiichi explodes in laughter at how that was the thing that worked. Being made aware of the amount of shoujo masterpieces that exist, Komachi regains her
    glasses
    humanity
. She doesn't know what happened but she's feeling an immense urge to go to the library. They only tell her she got her last piece and everything is okay now. That's the end of the main incident, but there's one side-event related to it. After all, Kannon chose to manifest as Komachi specifically on Valentine's Day for a reason.

I choose to interpret this is another Last Encore reference from Haganeya.

    Going on?

The Takamura mentions is the first thing that makes Komachi react
    Just "mention"?

Good ending. I think there'll be people who find the shoujo manga thing silly, but this game has been doing the whole
    Danganronpa V3
    "fiction matters actually"
thing since EoR and also it seems like the entire storyline was there to justify how exactly shoujo relates to Komachi's life and her own feelings on existence. It's not just that she likes reading manga, it's that the messages and ideas present within these stories mean something to her, and I think that makes sense for someone who primarily chose to be a poet.

I think that the idea of using glasses to represent Komachi's humanity is quite clever. I'm not entirely sure how much this specific symbolism was intended, but, glasses are a human invention meant to overcome a physical limitation. They're sort of a physical representation of humanity's progress in medicine, and in how human ingenuity can make the idea of 'survival of the fittest' obsolete. A god who transcends humanity doesn't need glasses because they can make themselves perfect, but a human needs glasses because of their imperfection, and that is in a sense beautiful.

Also it seems that first sentence implies Komachi is just one form Kannon can incarnate into? Like, Komachi is Kannon, but Kannon isn't Komachi. Like a Rin-Ishtar thing.

I thought DR V3 message was like "we have to search for the truth"+"those feelings were real" rather than something about fiction itself mattering

Finished the event and its really good, komachi is definitely a character i'd be happy to see show up as apart of a sei/murasaki trio and the shoujo stuff felt like it all tied together pretty well all characters were used greatly, kiichi was a nice surprise, also nikitch's dragon was actually funny, for once

Definitely fits that message too but I feel like how fiction itself matters and effects people ties into the second point anyway

A bit unfortunate that on checking asc3 of komachi only has special lines for sanzang, atleast one kiara one would've been funny

Epilogue: The Color of The Flower Sinking Below The Face of Water Shows Plain and Clear

Mash and Fujimaru watch impressed as Komachi speedreads an extremely long series. Mash can relate to staying awake late to read stuff in one sitting, but that's not healthy. She gives Murasaki praises for the library, but she and Nagiko are still stunned. Even in her complete form, Komachi doesn't remember her life. The only memories she has are the many disjointed and contradictory myths about her. But she does remember her wish and the feelings behind it. The reason why she chose to be summoned in Chaldea during Valentine's Day. Chaldea reminded her of her love for romance and poetry, so she summoned herself there to thank the person who taught her to love poetry in the first place.

Komachi, Fujimaru, and Mash head to cafeteria, with Mash carrying the frozen Murasaki with them. With Emiya's and Boudica's help, Komachi makes chocolate and gives it to Takamura, who steadfastly declines it. Mash tries to explain to him the expression of gratitude that this is, but he repeats again that he's not an independent Saint Graph, just a sub-product of Komachi's. There's no reason for Komachi to be giving a present to herself like that. Locusta asks Nikitich's horse's opinion as another Servant's sub-product. Nikitich calls for a family quarrel. The idea reminds Locusta of her frequent fistfights against the escaped Incarnadines. Nikitich threatens to let her horse harass Komachi on a daily basis if Takamura tries to go into spirit form to run away from the fight. Everyone, including the horse himself, considered that a pretty messed up idea. Regardless, Komachi hops on the idea of fighting her father to make him accept her chocolate even if he says no.

[ <-Battle against Ruler Ono no Takamura. He has his own sprite, but his battle animations are all taken from things he does in Komachi's animations.-> ]

Takamura proves his hardcore stubbornness. Komachi can't understand the lengths he goes to reject her chocolate. He gives the same answer as before. He's a sub-product of her shadow in history, not her true father. He's the weapon that protects her and it's delusional to believe he's anything else. Feelings and gifts are unnecessary. Everyone finds his harsh phrasing very uncalled-for.

Takamura: Quiet. I've heard enough. Never again call me for something like this. Are we clear, Komachi?

Caption: That is what Ono no Takamura says out loud. And the truth of the matter? He's majorly shy! He's so, so, so, so, so, so,so, so,so, so, so, so, so flustered that he can't bring himself to say anything sincere!
Murasaki's Taizan Commentary spell doesn't show its caption to the target, so Takamura sees everyone react to his tsundere reveal and has no idea what's happening. Murasaki breaks out of her stun state for a moment realizing what she's done. This is Locusta's first time seeing Taizan Commentary in action, and she's appalled at the weapon of relationship destruction Seimei created. Incredibly disgruntled Douman in the background. Takamura can't keep up with the conversation, so they explain everything to him off-screen.

Beni drops by for a quick "serves you right" because King Enma already told Takamura to be honest with his feelings multiple times. Komachi offers her chocolate again, but Takamura maintains his argument that he's not his own Heroic Spirit and it pains him to delude Komachi with a false father. Nikitich calls him stupid for overcomplicating what's clearly better off as an "appearances have meaning" situation. The horse backs up the argument, explaining that he won't deny himself a good time just because he came bundled with Nikitich. Add agrees, failing to see Takamura's problem with being a sub-product. Poppa Hokusai is disappointed at the silly things he's hearing a historical figure he admired say. Bakin's and Setanta's companion dogs bark something probably to that effect. They look at Orion for a comment as well, but he reminds them he's the main body and Artemis is the sub-product. Osakabehime only now notices everyone was watching since the scene is happening in the middle of the cafeteria. Kiichi pushes him to give in to the peer pressure. Komachi gives her chocolate again, restating her feelings.

Komachi. Pitiful Saint Graph who lost sight of your self in exchange for numerous myths. Eternal lover and composer of radiant romantic poems. The brightest light in my life. Daughter extolled as an immortal poet. Daughter envied as a beautiful maiden. Daughter considered an avatar of the bodhisattva. Daughter despised with certainty that you would one day wither and fall. My daughter who stands here charmed by this place's glimmer. This moment may be short-lived, but I ask for no more. I hope that in this stargazing pedestal, you smile as you always had. Not as a master of poetry, a beauty, or a bodhisattva. Only as a normal girl.

It was okay, but I still liked the previous Valentine event more. Andromeda charmed me a lot more.

Edit: Gimmick of the CQ, stick to ST and only attack those with the clock demerit. Very easy if you do that.

I've been informed that Hibichika's valentine's scene is a country-sized lily garden and now I am extremely depressed that it has not yet been translated.
