Apothecary Diaries continues and so we continue watching it. New OP is a downgrade, new ED is an upgrade but that was a very low bar to clear.

One Piece finally resumes so the time when I will stop sitting on manga spoilers will... well not end but at least the number of spoilers I'm sitting on will diminish a tad. I wonder if we'll get a new OP/ED.

The future of DMC already felt nebulous, what with Itsuno's departure and Langdon's final conspiracy straw breaking, and the new anime only confirmed my suspicions. Every detail that catches my eye makes me dislike it more and I will be here to hate it at every misstep.

Might fuck around and watch gundam for the first time just because of Anno tho

1st Episode Marathon (Part 1.5):

Note: Firefox crashed out halfway through this so the first few aren't going to be as raw as when I was watching them in the moment.

Once Upon a Witch: Going to be lots of emotional catharsis in this one I think. Baically an anthology series, much like Kino or Wandering Witch, only less focused on society and more on just personal stories. Kinda sad that the Mentor pointed to the Wrestlemania sign in the first five minutes and spoiled what is going to be the stories climax but it's also how these kind of things tend to go anyways. They get to the final stretch and something happens to make all their work usless, like they use thier wish on something else or or gets voided or something, but everyone they met along the journey comes together and refills the McGuffin at the last minute. Either way, not a bad first ep, let's see how it does in subsequent ones.

Your Forma: Wow Noa was right, that is a disjointed first episode. It's kind of jarring how much the aesthetic is hitting, but the plot is falling on it's face. One of these people is a robot? But they have a wife? But they're not Ai, just really well programmed? What is St Petersburg? Why do the police immediately assume that another cop was the killer when he's got a crazy missing twin out there? Who do the MC's work for? They're cops, but teh police don't like them? What's their job even, just diving into victims brains to learn what happened? why does that kill every human but the protag? Just how GitS is everyone in this universe? They all have brain jacks and cyber eyes at least. Yet despite all that, I want to figure out what the hell is happening and the show is otherwise well put together. We'll see how it shakes out.

Please Put Them On: Why does she get dressed in a gym storage room? There are plenty of other private places she has access to that are way easier to secure. A bathroom stall or your Student Council Office just to name a pair off the top of my head. How do you know that anyone who sees your boobs gets to Hayato your Bites the Dust? Is there someone else out there who is just skipping back in time every time you embarrass yourself? Or even an entire elementary school girls gym class? Or a public pools worth of people? I'm kind of interested in episode 2 just to figure out what this show even is. The set up screams gag show where she resets time for increasingly trivial reasons. The OP implies rom com between a sadistic manipulative nudist and her boy toy. OR IS IT JUST AN EXCUSE FOR PORN ALL ALONG? I get more and more curious the more I think about the show. Verdict: I don't know.

Catch me at the Ballpark: Wow from one persons undisguised fetish right into another ones. Maybe fetish is a bit too harsh, but definitely a hyper fixation on baseball and a thing for gyarus. But where the trashier one at least kept me guessing, this is just straightforward enough that if I don't like it right away, I know it won't grow on me. I will admit the guard bit with the cat got a chuckle out of me. Still gonna pass on this one. Wow ED, where was all this energy during the actual show? Easily the best part.

Beginning After the End: What? They've got togas and swords, but also plugsuits and carpet bombers? Oh it's just an isekai. Only this one isn't a chad enough demon lord to come out of the womb talking. Just once in these shows I'd like to see a couple where the father was the healer and the wife the melee fighter. Ha, "rulership is passed down, not seized", good joke buddy. Wow that was just basically a 1:1 on Mushoku Tenshi's first episode, only with worse animation but none of the hangups. Still bland as hell though so I'm going to pass.

Healers Life in the Shadows: Wow, show just starts by introducing the harem all out for MC's dick. Trying to get attention through sheer first impressions, without any attempt at building character or narrative. Bold move, we'll see how it plays out Cotton. Ten minutes in and the MC's said like one line, yet is the complete centre of every action. It legit just feels like the first episode of a second season re-introducing all these characters who already had their arcs two years ago. Skip.

Rock is a Ladies Modesty: Girls hair takes up both seats beside her. That feel when you explode into rose petals when you bump into someone. This is really hitting me. It's not as overwhelming polished as a Love Live, but it's got so much character to it. Really getting some Kakegurei vibes here too. The blond at the rich kid school who just wants to raise status, and the long haired noble daughter who's secretly bug fuck nuts. Way less horny though. So far. First unambiguous continuation. Really on board.

4/7 for the night, but 3 of those are really reliant on the next few episodes to hook me. TLDR; go watch Yuri Rockers.

First Ep's Marathon (Part B):

Sword of the Demon: Yikes 52:37 first ep. That's a lot. Did no one in the town realize the girl didn't age a day in 10 years? You know, it's not often in a situation like this for the guy who actually causes everything to both recognize it and ask for forgiveness. So we've basically got Japanese Highlander going on here. I hope in future episodes they flash back to the gap years and it's not all modern day stuff. Either way, I'm going to keep up on it.

Boy-Girl Friendship: Decent set up, fun characters, worth keeping around for now. Might drop it if something else has a straight up better romance this seaosn but good enough for now.

Dinner Table Detective: Starts off with an in your face OP. Ohhh I get it. This is just the Naked Gun/Police Squad. Getting a real Goscik vibes from it too. The pop-y art and really standout colours all remind em of that one.

Country Bumpkin to Sword Master: Didn't this show air twice last year? Wait, no, this one can't parry everything. It's like the first 10 minutes and there's like 3 late teens-early twenties women trying to jump this 50 yr old guys bones. And they're not even treating it as a joke. I think this one is a pass.

YAIBA: This feels so much like some early 2000's shonen you'd see on Fox Saturday mornings. Like real early One Piece energy. Damn the animation looks smooth though. Even though they're going hard on the Ranma formula. Only it feels off, like they both got rid of any personality, but somehow also dialed it up to 100. Wait Wit made this? That explains things. What do you mean original is as old as I am?! I guess that explains a lot. Maybe I'm just being harsh given that the Ranma remake was so good and very recent, but I'm just not feeling this one.

Guilty Gear: The story of Freddy Mercury and his 3 year old grandson going on a roadtrip to stop racism. I'm definitely going to watch it, but I can't even imagine how impenetrable this is for people who haven't played a GG game.

Kawoon Generic Romance: I have no idea what's going here, but it is sure as shit a vibe. OMG she's getting "50 First Dates"-d. You've got me interested here.

Anne of Green Gables: Strychnine in a well? Wasn't that still medicine at this point in time? I'm torn on this one, on one hand it's incredibly charming. On the other, it's Anne of Green Gables, and I've seen that countless times. I guess no harm in keeping it around until it just falls off the weekly rotation naturally.

Lazarus: That has got to be the most Watanabe opening a show has ever had. Really felt like he kept all the contacts from Carol and Tuesday for this OST. Doubt it'll reach that level of peak, but not everything can be perfect. Easy keep.

Witch Watch: Okay this one just keeps hitting with its jokes over and over. It had me from the first exposition scene with the dad, so much deadpan. Another easy keep.

To Be Hero X: Easily the most unique show I've seen so far, probably for the season, maybe for the year even. The 3D with that occasional high contrast 2D in bits is really evocative. HOLY SHIT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. WHAT IS THIS ENDING?! Goddamn, go watch this show. Now.

Maebashi Witches: Who uses actual camera's these days and not just thier smart phone? I don't even know where to go to get film developed anymore. I was expecting something more xxxHolic from the set up. Not "believe in yourself. Btw sit and watch our idol preformance". Has Love Live run it's course that this is what they have to do to amke a new idol anime? I think I'll stick to Rock is a Lady's Modesty this season.


Wow lots of good shit tonight. 12 shows, 9 staying around for next week at least. Which bring me to 13/19 for the season.

1ST Marathon Cont'd: (Part γ)

Princess Session Orchestra: Thought it was a Precure from the characters, but turns out to be digital idols. Or is it Symphogear? Evil idol, minions, sings as you fight. That's a Symphogear. Not nearly as absurd though, which is like 90% of the fun there. What do you mean, you wonder who that girl was? The one who showed up in the exact same place the idol was, who was singing as she fought? Gee hard to say. Could have been any singer up on stage during the idols solo concert. Pass.

Classic Stars: Beethoven's 5th. I guess that's one way to start an anime. I don't know what upsets me more, the generic rock on the 5th or adding vocals at all. Probably the generic inserts. If your gonna do rock of a 400 year old song song, at least try to pop the fuck off. Half ass it and it just feels fucking lazy. The sports building is an 8 story castle? A pretty boy show where they call out the references as bullshit? Colour me surprised. I don't think I've ever seen an Idol anime where the MC ends the first episode thinking its all bullshit. Still a pass though.

Blessed by Gorilla God: A shame because I think the premise has legs. It just does absolute nothing but the barest minimum with it. Pass.

Lord of Galactic Empire: It's the Red Black Comet! Lord of Evil...Liam? Oh its an isekai. Is that just Dantes? Still "I'm a cuck so I'll murder a bunch of random people" is a real bitch mindset. Just shows you're the exact same as everyone you claim to hate.

Unaware Atelier: I don't see any THIGHS, I think I've got the wrong Atelier. Oh it's one of those "i got kicked from my party even though I'm a gamebreaking wizard" ones. I wonder how long it's going to take him to think for three seconds about how his boring ability is amazing, yet he never did in the last X years. Oh hey the OP harem shot has neither elf or beast girl. That's rare. Ah it's more like Last Town Boonies, where MC is cracked but thinks it normal from his OP upbringing. Good gag, but not enough staying power.

Yandere Dark Elf: Why is the episode 12 min, but the uncensored one 24? Oh it's some kind of BTS stuff that no one translated. Way to much shota bait, Pass.

That's Journey: So it's just 12 versions of the Kyoto episode from every anime?

Makina-San's a Love Bot: Wow, to think I'd find two show Hornier than the Bites The Dust Panty one this season. At least I've got plenty of time to grind out Lilim Harlot.

GCucks: Weird start to this. The movie did it chronologically starting with the Char bit then the modern, where this starts with the new MCs and does the flashback episode 2 (maybe even 3), and the following will be them actually taking initiative in the plot. Makes sense to introduce your main cast episode 1 and not spend it on a flashback. Unless you pull a Witch from Mercury and do a prologue with all that set up in it, but I guess they wanted it all in one place this time, rather than having to wrangle an episode 0, and all the people who only start at episode 1.

Summer Pockets: A Man goes to a remote island to meet three young girls. Didn't I not-read about this in some redacted files involving the once and future president? I saw Loli #1 trying to swim and I remember that old Simpsons bit about tethered swimming. They did some good setting building in this one, but there's no real hook. Just "hey look at this place".

Compass 2.0: Wait so all the characters are basically the AI from a Capture the Flag game? Why would you make a game that basically FGO on autobattle for a full VR experience?

Chuzenji Lecture Logs: Faux supernatural mysteries set in the 50's? Something you don't see that often. I'm actually really digging it.



Wow, only get a real hit once I get to the end of the night. 2/12 shows today roll over to next week, although Gundam feels more like a continuation, since I saw the movie a month previous.

15/21 for the season now. Real failure of a night, almost completely if it wasn't for Chuzenji. Only 5 more left then I can start of the sequel shows, and see if Fire Force and 300 Year Slimes are worth keeping up with.
