yeah, if i'm stuck in 3rd anyways, my score doesn't matter, so doing the move that might inflate my hand enough to reach 2nd is less of a i don't give a shit lol move, and more of a last ditch effort to salvage the game where people get draws better than me by multitudes. didn't pay off, but that's part of the risk. if it wasn't all last, i wouldn't have riichi'd. an ittsuu dora hand ron is a somewhat sizable amount, so if it isn't all last, i would get an opportunity later. but since it wasn't, inflating with riichi and possible uradora on my head is the only way to salvage.

Just remembered the one time I won a match... by being in tenpai. The other one who was nearly tied with me in points was also in tenpai (or so I presumed). If I hadn't been, the 1k point loss to me and 1k gain for her would have bumped me down to second.

Managed to get tenpai just before the round ended. Won due to a technicality. XD

yeah, throwing down a riichi stick while looking at points is much more dangerous if people are close in score to you and you're fighting for the lead, than it is if they are far away from you in any situation, unless that 1000 is the difference for victory if you coincidentally drop their winning tile and get hit with a limit hand.
