Well, from my time as a student, those hours are not so hard to meet, really. Then again, my schedule was all sorts of messed up back then so maybe that wasn't such a good example to make...
Well, during my time as a student (which only ended a few months ago...), I was often going to bed at 6 AM or so....
I nominate myself, because as you all know I'm not biased in any way or emotionally unstable or hold grudges against people and am very tolerant of off-topic discussion. And any one of you know from experience I am very humble, the humblest around, and will not lord my status over you or threaten to ban you the moment I see something devolve into a trollfest. I just need to be paid ten dollars a minute for my service to the community.

Well, I am kidding. I need to go back and read past the first page, actually. I saw that it had 19 pages and assumed that it was mike and some others arguing against some others for unfair treatment of somebody in either an RP or a fanfic, and put forth that as evidence that so and so didn't deserve mod-hood. But assumptions shouldn't be allowed to take hold of anybody, so I'll probably read all of the thread in the morning.
In all seriousness, if I get this straight, the current criteria is somebody who can both be unbiased and fair in their decisions, and also be on at a time where the other mods are not, so that the forum is nearly constantly moderated. While I am a dick, even though I try not to be, when it comes to making a decision as a person in authority I always try to be unbiased. Sadly, that means that I never actually get things done, because when you consider things from all angled what you should do becomes blurred.
But the other major qualification is being on a lot of the time, and I work. So, yeah, that isn't going to happen.
Personally, myself, I don't think as of this time anybody can, or should, be a new mod. The ones we have now may not always be there to try to settle disputes, but I've never known them to be unjust and wield their powers wrong. Altima himself is a somewhat good example of this, he never simply demands something, he asks, he talks, and by then things seem to settle themselves down. The only place I could see this being handy would be the RP section, but again, who could qualify for the position?

Haha.
I'd love to be a Mod/Mini mod for the RP forum.
I have tons of free time and I'm not biased.
I also make fair decisions based on what I've seen.
Of course I know I won't be one since I've received some warnings for things I've said.
So I'll just say that Milbunk and Erl are good candidates IMO.
And it's good to see that this thread is back on track.

@type: yeah, no. I have had a few peeks behind the curtains lately, and this isn't going to end without some new blood on the team. Hell, I would surprised if it was just one person, I recommend actually putting names forward, just saying we don't need more is not really going to happen.
Then tobias. I recommend tobias.

In the interest of having the opinions of more forumites heard, I'd like to express my support of:
1. New globals mods rather than miniMods. These might be forumites who spend more time perusing the RP forum, but not restricted to them.
2. Guidelines being put in place for the RP forum. Most of which should be common sense, but it never hurts to have it spelled out.
3. The candidates being put forth so far. I have little problem with them.
As for what I think some of the RP forum guidelines should be, maybe something along the lines of:
1. Respect each other. If you're a player, respect the GM's authority to run the world his way. If you're the GM, respect your player's desire to play their characters they way they envisioned them.
2. GMs should have final say on the mechanics of their game/world. If an action is in dispute, GMs should be able to say "Yes it happened" or "No you can't do that".
3. ???
4. ???
I dunno guys, but this is the discussion thread so we should take the opportunity to discuss guidelines/rules to put in place. There's been a lot of talk about new mods, but less about the new structure that the mods are looking to put into place.
Social conflicts are probably a case-by-case kind of thing I would say, and generally fall back to mutual (or even begrudging) respect. I'm a relatively new RPer so all the vets and professionals could offer their thoughts? I skimmed through the old general RP discussion thread before it became a blame war. They have been disputed, but maybe it could be a good place to start thinking about things?
I have to admit, I'm crossing my fingers here and hoping the same arguments don't spill forth. Thoughts? Ideas?

why are you quoting me blue?
Because he considered the quote relevant as a set of guidelines for the RP section?
Personally, the spirit of the quote isn't bad, but the language is aggressive and holier-than-thou...
Yeah, I didn't think that the rules themselves were bad. I understand the arguments raised in opposition, but I did think that it was a good base to start discussion. Whether or not you actually felt that there needed to be a set of guidelines (and I believe you did), you raised some interesting points. I'm hoping that we can ignore the double messages that may or may not have existed and actually constructively come up with some guidelines for future reference.

admittedly my grammar failings do make it sharper then it's intended. the intent of that quote was to evenly present my own experiences and the way I was taught so that others could understand where I stand before giving their own opinions and experiences etcetera. sadly the thread did not fair well due to only mellon engaging in actual discussion.Because he considered the quote relevant as a set of guidelines for the RP section?

Well, this thread has at least shown me more people to rule out, lol.
In any case, Mil doesn't sound too bad, but I have an issue if he's hardassed enough for the job. When it comes down to it, ya gotta be able to take charge of a situation that gets out of control.

This is probably the largest issue imo. Both Milbunk and Leo are too... nice in my opinion, to be mods. I cant see them putting down a quick forceful decision (which is what the RP section needs in these cases), instead of a open debate with both sides. You would need both a forceful personality and a somewhat neutral position.
Which leaves us with a precious few people suitable for the job.
Alf (who is, regardless of what is being said, imo a pretty fair guy).
Verg (who is already somewhat of an authority figure in the RP section, or so it looks to me at least)
Froggie (who can be forceful when needed, but doesn't go roughshod over everyone, issue with the location though)
Bryn (same as Froggie, but doesnt have much free time atm)
Erl (who strikes to me as the person who likes to fool around, but would put his foot down when the going got serious)
Hyarion (who is probably the most fair guy in the entire section)
Ego (who is a decent guy with a reasonable and calm head on his shoulders)
The rest are either too involved in debates (Mike, Racing) or too nice to act like a bastard (Leo, Mil, Mereo for instance) That is just my opinion though. Feel free to crucify me, if you think it is needed.
