86 volume 6 done. Probably my fave volume so far, awesome shit. 10/10.
Aniplex.... where are the anime news..... it was supposed to air 2020.....
Wait, is Ryuuou really that popular or is the bar lower than what SAO and Index make it seem?
Ryuuou is very popular and is genuinely fantastic, easily the best written of the three imo, but it requires a lot of tolerance for some very in your face obnoxious lolicon humor. The author is actually well-regarded in shogi circles and has been invited as a commentator for matches. The last 4 years, Ryuuou has consistently been in Konorano’s Top 3, which is probably why it got into hall of fame together with the two giants despite being a relative newcomer (started in 2015).
for anyone capable of powering through cringy lolicon jokes, i cannot recommend it enough. Regardless if you care about/understand shogi (i sure fucking dont lmao).
Well, that's definitely surprising. Mostly because I've stopped hearing about it even as the anime was still airing, but I guess it's obvious that the west wouldn't care for it.
The anime was mostly watched by lolicons for the comedic content, the ryuuou wiki is full of comments by anime-only lolicons seething about the non-loli girl winning the romance race in the later volumes. They probably found some other show to replace it. The author was very disappointed the shogi and dramatic side got snubbed in the anime, and politely urged people to go for the manga if they want Ryuuou in a visual medium. It was a very typical 5 volumes in 12 eps breakneck speed lets sell some bishoujo merch anime adaption.
I'll add my two cents despite catching the convo late.
Ryuouu is one of the best LN's when it comes to handling the cast. It's also insane at eliciting emotional response and making the reader empathise with the characters which is why weeblord and I are always watching the new volume release dates and exchange opinions. Well, not for this volume, tho, cuz I'm broke.
As of what I read, Ryuouu just ended an epic emotionally charged arc. The series is capable of being both mindblowingly idiotic with lolicon crap and soul-crushingly dark when it wants to. A special mention to Shiratori's afterwords, that are too damn heartwrenching to be LN author's thoughts, and Shirabii being an absolute champ when it comes to illustrating the dramatic sequences.

Anime is trash, btw. Not worth watching.
Ryuuou 13 done. One of my least fave volumes tbh, cause like vol 8 its padded with a bunch of throwaway romcom fanservice shortstories from various sources. I guess it cant be helped though, Shiratori explains its because he couldnt gather material due to corona since he couldnt go around interviewing professional players like he usually does. But still, for a volume purely about the loli brigade the actual fresh content was surprisingly solid. Mio was based, red Ai i dont even need to comment on as there isnt a second where she doesnt slay, and blue Ai was better written than shes been in a long time.
So ryuuous now entering its final arc huh? Damn.
え?
BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
Haruhiism still alive baby

Sounds like good sales yet at the same time, managed to not register on my radar. None of the grapevines I'd been frequenting mentioned anything.

Ah eBook version anyway. interesting...
Well. If what I've read is right, it comprises three stories. quite a few of the novels were a few short stories collected in a book, so probably like those.
There's a lot to cover after all this time though. Question is whether the guy is still writing Haruhi...

Read classroom of the elite vol 3. This series didnt grab me before, i thought vol 2 especially was very boring, but it finally gitted gud with this volume. Though its still funny how this is basically a super serious version of Bakatest.
Tomozaki-kun volume 5 was great. Tama-chan LOVE!

Wanna see this in anime but dont want the anime to rush to vol 5 aaargh

I finished volume 3 of 86 finally. I don't know why it took me so long to finish since I went through the first two pretty fast. Maybe it was because of all of the military jargon or the all characters being introduced. The scene in the graveyard with Nina and Shin made up for that whole letter situation that made so mad. And I like how it ended with Shin and the other members of his team meeting Lena in person for the first time, to bring the story back to the ending of the first book. I'm interested where the story goes from here.
