Well, there's a plethora of characters. Their presence may be reduced for the benefit of current characters.

^ Well, like I said it's just speculation. I have no idea how this author writes - maybe he likes ridiculously unexpected twists as much as Haganai's does.

The Servants are the big draw of any Fate series anyway. Whenever a new project comes out, people are always gabbing about identities and Noble Phantasms. I wouldn't be surprised if the Masters get brushed aside almost entirely in favor of Servant battles.
Man and I wanted to see some really cool magi. That's really where you have room to stretch.

^This. I think besides the translation, there was some meager profiles on Red team. Basically, there were all combat oriented magi with their own specializations. That would have been cool to read but I get that there's a shitload of characters here and not everyone is interested in the same characters.
I figured he would have to cut down on characters in a hurry but making them no shows entirely would be lame.
