But wait. If Gilles could be summoned as a Heroic Spirit, wouldn't that mean his spirit is in the Throne of Heroes. So then how could there also be a wraith floating around to get summoned. Unless both exist simultaneously... like, the spirit of Gilles when he was at his prime was copied into the Throne, but then Gilles lived on to become insane and his actual spirit became the wraith.

Gilles as the "hero that served with Joan of Arc" could have been recorded on the Throne based on human worship in the same way that Herc and Medusa and all apparently spontaneously appeared there, while the actual Gilles that died neck-deep in child porn stuck around as a wraith, a separate existence.
Localizationing stuff
The Throne is outside of time so if he goes there at some point he can always be summoned as a Hero(did we ever get confirmation that he really can, or was that just idle speculah on Nasu's part?) even if his wraith is still kicking around. The magic of time travel and what it can do for your stories.

As for a copy of him being recorded, that's what I thought too, but the way I understand it, their actual soul gets transferred into the Throne of Heroes. So a situation where there's two of them running around shouldn't exist.
In other words, normally it would go:
Die ~> Get reincarnated or stick around as a wraith
OR:
Die ~> Soul gets removed from cycle of reincarnation and gets placed into Throne of Heroes

Wraiths don't last forever. At some point you have to head to Akasha for some reincarnation. If you qualify as a Heroic Spirit but became a Wraith first you probably go to the Throne at that point. The distinction isn't really that important I would imagine.

It's Gil's lame pun again. The entry for Gilles talks about how he lost all his money, which means he's a wraith because he's ハサン (bankrupt) and all ハサン (Hassan) are wraiths.
So he's a wraith by Gilgamesh decree. Sounds legit to me, Gilgamesh would know.

That was Mcjon parodying one of Gilgamesh's lame puns from CCC, which flew over plebeian heads because lolmoonrunes, and then having to explain the joke, and in doing so hilariously extending the parody even further.
