I believe it's still gonna have lot of people playing and starting even if ash of creation and Blue Protocol released. Even now there is Lost Ark , xiv still have lot of players who play it and just start (like me) since it doesnt cuck people with bad upgrade power system. Lot of MMO kill themselves because bad publisher and management. They'll realize that f2p mmo is actually more expensive if you want to have more fun

Okay but… is it fun? Or is it more of a “chore”?

The story is great. Gameplay-wise it's not terribly innovative, but it flows very well. There is definitely grinding involved at the higher levels, but it's never "mandatory" if you just want to play the game.

I really love variant dungeons in XIV, best new game style that they've introduced in a long time. Hope they're a permanent fixture going forward.

Dungeons you can enter with a group from 1 to 4 players (enemies scale to however many are inside). They're called variant dungeons because there are branching paths and multiple endings. Every time you do the dungeon you get a currency to buy stuff like hairstyles, glamours, and minions, and if you find every ending you get a mount.

The first one explores the ruins of Ul'dah's forgotten sister city Sil'dih, and the second one that just came out is a sacred mountain infested with yokai outside Kugane.

But console dosn't matter. It's 100% crossplay. That's why Xbox took so long, they apparently wanted xbox exclusive servers when first approached.

Unless you need some help figuring out how the controller works. But that's really easy after the first 5 minutes.

Also they're gonna be extending the free trial to the end of the second expansion next patch so it's a good time to get into it.

What’s your recommendations for datacenters?

There isn't too much difference between them, just that if you're on an american datacenter you can't play with someone on an eu or jp one or vice versa. You can hop between servers and dataceters so long as they're based in the same continent.
Apart from that, different datacenters have slightly different atmospheres, for the US, Crystal has more roleplayers (and erp'ers) Aether has more raiders, Primal is more general, and Dynamis is new so it's not got as many players

Though that's not to say that there's no raiding on Crystal or roleplaying on Aether, just that those are the stereotypes
