Excuse you. Using yourself as the experiment for an untested and unfinished process is, like, mad scientist 101. Jekyll would be proud.

Why wasn't his formula locked away? IIRC weren't the cabunet doors sealing it just taped over or something?

"What do you mean? Aren't you, Shirley, father's favorite pupil? Wouldn’t it be Shirley who keeps it up if it comes to it?"

Shirley, who went often to his house, didn’t only do domestic chores such as tidying the house; she also helped his father in his work as an assistant. His father once said that this girl named Shirley possesses exceptional intelligence and talents, and is really a waste to leave her on this lone island. It says something about Shirley’s talents if his father, who always obeyed the creed of secrecy, trusts a female stranger to such a degree.

But Shirley herself laughed loudly and shook her head.

"I'm not any kind of a pupil. At the most I'm only an assistant, someone who does the odd jobs and give a hand. Therefore, I don’t know anything about the important parts.
Though the educational environment she grew up in was extremely poor—she did not even attend elementary school, and only learned reading and writing from the local priest—it was enough to stimulate her ample intellectual curiosity, and by the time she was 13 years old she had already received a master’s degree through correspondence courses alone. Of course, this talent did not go unnoticed by Emiya Norikata. He brought her on as his assistant, putting her in charge of handling all the miscellaneous daily tasks in the Emiya household.
While she did receive some training from Norikata, it was not at the level of being taken on as his disciple. He simply taught her the basics of the basics, and nothing more. And really, even calling it that much is a stretch. All he actually did was interact with her without bothering to hide his true nature as a magus. Nevertheless, Shirley’s innate thirst for knowledge allowed her to absorb Norikata’s words at an astonishing pace, and he expected great things from her in the future. However, as the old saying goes, “Curiosity killed the cat.” In the end, her inquisitive mind brought about a tragedy.
You and your grad student (who has a Masters' degree) are working on a project together.
You tell your grad student not to touch a thing because its dangerous and potentially hazardous.
Grad student decides to ingest the thing.

it was probably an MA in Japanese; Norikata wanted to hire someone he could talk to

    J. G. Ballard story about young shirley in the early 1960s playing around the ruined concrete blockhouses & abandoned machine gun nests left behind on her south pacific island by the WW2 Japanese and becoming obscurely fascinated by the strange ideographic script she finds on the crumbling painted decals and graffiti scrawled by dying, malaria-stricken IJA platoons decades ago. wat means? she asks. pursuit of this results ultimately in destruction. perfection of death drive implicated in abstract geometry of landscape. bunker archaeology. thanatos. the ruin of Showa japan's militaristic dream of asian empire: point zero in the coordinates of the emiya <curse>

Speaking of, I remember seeing this art installation or smth that was basically a metal bar with a big sign saying DO NOT TOUCH, and then if you touched it it delivered a fairly painful electric shock.

I spent about an hour just sitting and watching people get zapped by it, t'were hilarious.

When I got my master’s the first thing I did was call up a buddy of mine and said “I passed, the system fails again!”

i did did the same thing when I got my clinical license

    EDIT:

That’s right folks. Don’t forget, they actually gave a medical license to yore ole buddy rapebird. Next time you are seeing your P.A. or diagnostician, don’t forget he or she likely is bringing to the table the same level of mental acuity, training, and intellect as displayed by yours truly.

    sleep tight!

I did that when I got my driver's license, which if you think about it is probably far more terrifying.

I thought SOP was to use a stolen corpse, one of your servants, or a kidnapped peasant.
