Tbf, there's also Fujimaru immedietely thinking about Ryougi's eyes upon seeing KH's abilities in Camelot and Mash in Melty saying that she gets from Sheba the same response to Shiki's presence as it had to King Hassan
I swear there was something somewhere explicitly denying that King Hassan had MEoDP. I remember because I was disappointed when I learned that, felt like having them would be a perfect fit for him.
Yeah I also remember this being directly addressed in an interview but I can't find it.
Found it, I think. It's from Chaldea Ace. Maybe moonruners can clear this up, but it talks about how Gramps imparted death to Tiamat, and it's not related to MEoDP.
Doesn't mention MEoDP. Hardly confirmation/deconfirmation of anything.
King Hassan debut in Camelot. The Hassans and Bedivere explain how he kills. Fujimaru says “ok, I get it, it’s like MEoDP, right?”. The Hassans and Bedivere don’t bother answering (possibly because they don’t know what MEoDP is?)
Later his content in Camelot, Babylonia, materials, etc. tended to refer to his things as “technique”, which convinced the fandom that he doesn’t have MEoDP because Mystic Eyes aren’t techniques. You don’t practice and develop Mystic Eyes.
Chaldea Ace later explained how he imparted the concept of death on Tiamat and his method didn’t involve Mystic Eyes at all.
Arcueid’s voice line for Hassan is a vague “I didn’t believe there was precedent in human history”, presumably in reference to Shiki’s eyes.
Lastly Nahui Mictlan confirms imparting death is a technique by showing he can teach it to Beni-Enma. That’s everything as far as I can remember. No concrete confirmation either way. Just a weird amount of denial from people who think technique and Mystic Eyes of Death Perception are mutually exclusively.
MBTL also has Mash's mini-SHEBA analyze Shiki which causes Mash to comment that she "hasn't seen readings like that since King Hassan". Also, apparently Tepeu just studied really hard and got a weaker form of MEoDP so maybe previous assumptions weren't necessarily correct? Though, I suppose it never was since Shiki only got his half-way through his life.
To me, it seems at the very least that their powers are vaguely related (especially since they have this focus on "the boundary", which Tepeu also somewhat shares), even if not entirely identical.
As a psychic power they're something you're supposed to need to be born with the actual traits/potential for in order to awaken.
Beyond the character's thematic ties I think Nasu's drawing an intentional link between the two as Assassins of "the boundary" so I do think there is a connection between the the concept of death, the boundary and their powers though I don't think they're the same. I expect what Shiki did to Roa during from the boundary will maybe shed some more light on this.
What does weaker form of meodp even mean anyway..I guess if it can get stronger it can also get weaker..like how balor can actualise death just by looking at Target but application wise I have no idea how a "weaker" meodp supposed to work
The powerlevel of MEoDP is not really clear to me, but my theory is that it depends on what can be affected by it, from tangible objects to abstract concepts, with Tohno's seemingly evolved throughout his battle with Vlov. And also how defined the lines are on their thickness, from scribbles to bold ones, and if they include points too.
I guess Balor's eyes are considered the ultimate manifestation of MEoDP, by killing things normally like Tohno, Ryougi, and Tepeu do, and impart death concept on the unkillable like KH and Beni Alter do so they are susceptible to it.
The priest was waiting for the arrival of the princess, who was only an enemy of all of them.
For the priest, the golden princess was the one and only main heroine.
Everyone else was unworthy of his respect, no matter how strong they were.
Tsukihime 2 Prelude III
Directly? Nowhere. But Anastasia's profile established that both Vyy's Mystic Eyes and MEoDP are downgraded from Balor's eyes in different directions, so you can deduce the rest from there.
Mystic Eyes of Death Perception have the power to locate weaknesses and poke them for instant death.
Mystic Eyes of Clear Sight have the power to locate weaknesses and create weaknesses in what doesn't have any.
Conclusion: Their shared original, Balor's eyes, could make and poke death lines anywhere. Broken but a fair nerf from the myths, where Balor just killed things by looking at them.
Huh, it's the Sharingan and Byakugan both being descended from the Rinnegan.
(is that how it went, I don't know what has and hasn't been alien-retconned in Naruto)
Nerf? I don't recall Balor from the Mythos being able to kill deathless beings. Though I guess even in this case he'd need to poke the lines with something, probably an eye beam.
It's weird because in his case some sources claim it was Mystic Eyes and others classify it as an Authority.

Tsukihime 2 Prelude III
It can be both. Authorities can be vested in items rather than people, like Zeus's thunderbolts or Poseidon's trident.
