[20:47:33] I3uster: in 2015 a crack memer was sent to skype prison by a court of his Peers for a crime he didnt commit. he promptly escaped from his Maximum security Forum into the twitter Underground. Today, still wanted by the skype Group he survives as memer of fortune. If you Need a shitpost, if nobody else can fuck up a thread, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire: June.

It's all a manifestation of the same problem, which is people dismissing things because they don't like them.
Well, less so for Prototype since that one is basically entirely separate.
The "gen is a hack" isn't by itself the problem because it only makes one or two people impossible to talk with, but it's a manifestation of it and by being perpetuated it enables the others.

I don't think it's going to stop people who actually want to discuss things. Like, you don't see any other people than Tobias saying "Gen is a hack" and ending Zero arguments. Usually people throw that kind of line out there when they were not intending to delve into the discussion anyway.
It's true that if EVERY OTHER POST is a meme post though, that it would discourage people from making serious analytical posts because nobody wants to write out something huge and then just have no real responses given to it. But that's been a complaint about BL post culture for a while, and you still see discussions crop up amongst it here and there like in the UBW thread.

i mean now that we know sn doesnt actually follow zero it does have some more credibility to it

You seem to think that it's a binary choice between "X kills all discussion" and "X is not a problem".
Just because it doesn't automatically shut down all discussion upon being invoked doesn't remove the fact that it has a negative impact on any discussion where it appears and enables other behaviors that are unhealthy for discussions.

You are right in principle, but the question is where to draw the line. On my forum I just straight out banned memeposting because I got tired of every post being a gif, and noticed an actual uptick in posting substance. But here, you have stuff like McJon's jokes or people replying "yes" to an "or" question. There is always going to be some friendly banter mixed in between the discussion that may or may not move the discussion forward but is otherwise tolerable anyway because it's benign enough.
A lot of it is because we've already discussed these things to death, and everybody knows where everybody else stands. So rather than rehash the same discussion for the 50th time in a row, we make jokes. When there's actual new info, you usually see discussion around it. That and a lot of people treat the forum more like a place to hang out with friends rather than first a place to debate TM lore. Moderating a forum of this size is and controlling every post like that is pretty much impossible so the culture is derived from what the users want and this is what you're getting. It has to come from the bottom up.
But for this thread, anyway, it's not like there was a serious discussion going on here that got ruined by memes. It was just joking around from beginning to end.

memeposting is not the posting of meme pictures or pointing out a meme post with a "nice meme" (though that can be a memepost if applied to a post that is not a memepost)
its just some term we made up because "ironic shitposting" didnt really capture what it meant anymore since it became so much more sophisticated

No, he gets the upgrade when he gets his next ban. It's obnoxious, but not ban worthy yet.
