At least they have bromance? murdermance?, whatever the thing that's going on with Caster, which Lio doesn't.

Uryu is relevant for crackpot Shirou's Dad theories, but yeah. A lot of Gen channeling his usual self.

One simply comes to accept that animeland has significantly more diversity in hair color than actual Japan.

Honestly I got the impression that he dyed his hair. IIRC if you partially bleach black hair it goes that kind of bright orange.

Any thoughts/hopes for the anime special at the New Year stream this year? A Mahoyo short would be nice since it looks like the movie's been delayed.

    Was an anime special confirmed?
The priest was waiting for the arrival of the princess, who was only an enemy of all of them.
For the priest, the golden princess was the one and only main heroine.
Everyone else was unworthy of his respect, no matter how strong they were.

No, but IIRC there's no precedent for us getting the Fate Project New Year's Eve special without one.

I think the only time they haven't done one was when Strange Fake got delayed.

    Checked.
2017 was the Himuten special and Moonlight/Lostroom.
2018 was episode 0 of Grace Note.
2019 was episode 0 of Babylonia.
2020 was episode 1 of Grand Carnival.
2021 was the Case Files OVA.
2022 would be Strange Fake but it got delayed.

It was, but I think that predates the standard New Year Special format?

It's funny that a decade plus ago, Kayneth's feelings wrt Japan versus Hong Kong were frankly bizarre and impenetrable, and now that's probably just A Guy you can find on statue avi twitter

    Spoiler:
inb4 it was, all along, actually a metaphor for the magi of Hong Kong (presumably?) continuing to practice Philosophy Magecraft, while seemingly most Japanese magi have adopted Western Magecraft. sasuga Urobuchi!

No, it's when he's internally monologuing about how Japan sucks, and he says Hong Kong is better. Fun fact: Japanese fans like to cite this as proof that Kayneth is Not Racist.

But not even living in such a luxurious room, sitting in the real leather sofa by the window, could ease Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi's depression in the slightest.

To him, the items of this room are merely 'a wasteful gathering'. It's merely a somber room, some expensive furniture, and some fancy everyday items. To Kayneth who's been born into aristocracy, there's nothing he can't stand more than originally common things being dressed up in fancy outfits to appear falsely aristocratic. But right now, that's exactly what this hotel room is like. There isn't the slightest bit of historical background or a cultural heritage to this room. It is merely a pigsty decorated by a luxurious appearance.

But the instigator of this lowly feeling is not limited to just this hotel; this extremely tiny island nation known as the "Japan" is filled with things that leave Kayneth with an unhappy, ugly feeling.

Even the tiny island of Hong Kong can give off a very local, folk-style feeling. But right now Fuyuki's Shinto does not show, even a bit of its local culture. Like now, overlooking the city's night scenery from a high spot, there is no way for you to guess exactly in which city of which country you are in. Simply gathering the most common items, and putting them together-- if he were to be asked what exactly this city is, Kayneth would say it is merely like a mountain of rubbish.

If this easternmost island nation had preserved its original, honest backwater, fishing village feeling, then it would be much more interesting than it is now... but unfortunately, when it comes to the ability to comprehend things like this, a race like the Japanese probably could not do it. This undeveloped country which did not even have a constitution a hundred years ago, wants to forge forward and compete with western countries by purely relying on technological science and financial development, as if they wanted to unabashedly force their way into the ranks of the developed countries. It is indeed very difficult to reason with these people.
I still think it's a weird take (idk how anyone can go to a random Japanese metropolis and walk away thinking it's identical to any other metropolis - all the graveyards in prime real estate should tip you off, for one), but a year ago someone read some choice quotes from Hiro Onoda's book to me and what do you know: Kayneth has the same Takes on Japan as a soldier who spent 30 years fighting in the Philippines because he couldn't accept that WWII was over. I could be completely off course, but I certainly felt like I understood Urobuchi's characterisation of Kayneth a bit better, after that.
