    What's a nasuverse term you'll die by?

It doesn't matter if it's not the word of choice in current year. Maybe it never was. Maybe only you and handful of others still say it. Doesn't matter. You'll keep using it until you
    move on from TM
    die
. Alternatively, maybe there's a popular term you'll never be swayed from using, even if the tides change.

For me, it's magi and thaumaturgy. I have my reasons. You can give your reasons for your terms, if you want.

This post brought to you by the wiki removing instances of the word thaumaturgy from a page I follow.

To be clear, it still counts if you alternate your terms. I'll never not use magi, but I do say words other than thaumaturgy.

Magic for Magecraft and Sorcery for True Magic. I just find the terms Magecraft and True Magic too clunky and they just end up clashing with other terminologies in my opinion. Like creatures other than mages can use 'magecraft' and Magic is supposed to be a special thing yet everyone uses 'magic circuits'. It just ends up being weird

Also The Vortex of Radix, it just sounds cool

Have you fully swapped to Fount, or is Origin too ingrained at this point?

Prefer the old terms - mystery, true magic , magecraft, origin, root. Not changing them and frankly I don't see any need either

In translations and the like I stick to some old terms like Mystery still, but I guess the one most relevant to this topic is probably "true magic". Not because I think it's the best or anything, I just tend to default to it in discussions because it's the only thing alternative for "mahou" we have that pretty much has no likelihood of being misunderstood.

the term 超越種 (refers to high-tier Elementals like Arc and generally things that are 'on a completely different level' from humanity) is no longer used very much (not that it was ever used that often back in the day) but I still like Transcendent Kind for it

For me I really like Fount but I still find myself defaulting to Root unless I'm actively trying not to. It's just too ingrained yeah.

    RE: OP

The diverse terminology is not only a desirable barrier to entry but also informative of a poster's provenance, and very probably the way things work in the Association. One says Akasha, another says Root, the third Ymir's Gate, and they all understand what each other means, as do we.

I tend to use Akasha in discussion. But as someone who got into Nasu when the standard was "spiral of origin", I do find the insistence of using "the root" a bit asanine. The reason I don't like that particular translation has mostly to do with the fact that it muddies the metaphor too much. After more than a few conversations I have noticed people don't understand the tree-metaphor isn't intended at all. Rather, Akasha is associated with water.

Ironically, I'll say "Root" in English and "Spiral of Origin" in my native language. I just know I'll never use "Fount" though. "Magic Crest" is another one that has multiple translations in my language but I settled on the first one I got exposed to.

I'll just post in screenshots and not concern myself with choosing.

I can't immediately think of any cases of being in love with my terms, but cases of looking at other people's terms and thinking "this is so stupid" come in droves.

The one that occupies my mind the most, to little surprise from everyone, is the Tsukihime glossary going out of its way to explain the difference between sympath abilities and empath abilities to hammer hard into the reader's head that Kohaku is a sympath and not an empath, and then the non-McJon translations of this entry still decide to call it the wholly unrelated Synchronization.

I guess in this vein I still use Mashu in everything from conversations to my own translations (just not in Rayshift), mostly because it's stuck and partly because "Mash" sounds stupid but there's no winning with it tbh.

I read somewhere that her name was written as Matthew once, and that was strangely iconic. Imagining Matt as her nickname is genuinely fascinating.

Yeah, it was on an early Valentine CE from her. Either the first or second year.

First year's. Well, technically second calendar year, but you know what I mean.
