He's younger than Shirou, Rin, and Ayako by about a year. Don't forget that Sakura is Shirou's junior. Minori and Sakura would be the same age then, give or take a few months.

Not traditional like Shirou lives in, because I have Arashi's guide for that, but about the living conditions of the average person in modern Japan.

Depends on your income really. But your average person in Japan will be living in an a apartment...just small.

Such inappropriate sounds, given the situation. This particular Dead Apostle had tastes very ill aligned with his own in this matter. How could he properly perform when the monster was audibly enjoying her execution?

She wasn't even squirming for the right reasons.

No matter. He was not on a tight schedule this month. The lead up to the first Grail War of his lifetime was still a year away.

"Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I am a man of the Lord, and it has been a full year since my last confession."

The confessional booth was not a face to face affair, in keeping with the traditional standards of the Church in these matters. Confidentality was easier to assure, if the one who came for reconciliation desired it, in this manner.

"I have known the touch of a woman while under Holy Orders, and took her as my wife in an illegitimate ceremony."

There was a pause, as the young man's words reached his fellow priest on the other side of the grating.

"I will not ask you to betray the confidence of whomever performed the ceremony. We have other ways to determining such things; more importantly for your benefit, brother, is this question: what is your current relationship with that woman?"

Another pause.

This one hurt for all the wrong reasons.

"Dead, Father. Our marriage was the gap of a year I mentioned before. But ... that is not the true reason I have come here."

The other man was polite enough to avoid laughter at the seeming absurdity of it all.

"For violating your Holy Orders? What crime could you have committed that would surpass such an act?"

Conviction filled his voice for his response, the first time in this entire conversation.

"Existence."

The fourth entered into her shoulder, and she screamed half in agony, half in excitement, which only amplified tenfold when he twisted the blade and severed the limb that followed down from it entirely.

Beautiful red on an opulent floor of mosaic patterned shale.

Truly, this monster had many sins to purge.

They were kin in this matter, as he was with all of his victims.

To drive the point home, he took a bite in front of her.

The taste was not what he enjoyed from devouring the flesh of the damned.

It was the look of absolute disgust that overcame them.

Ah, that worked.

Her eyes were beautiful again.

He told his fellow priest all of it.

Of his history, his hollow achievements, his unfulfilling accolades.

Of that worst of moments, when he could feel no sorrow for the woman he loved...

Save that he had not been the one to kill her himself.

He could take no joy in the world God had created, save in the ways it could be made to hurt and bleed and scream.

For this, he would subject himself to any penance. To any punishment, for his blasphemous life, this abomination.

... except, he did not know why.

He could do nothing until he knew that answer. He could be convicted of nothing in his own heart unless he had a purpose for all of this.

But then, the priest said, "You are an executor of Rome, are you not? Do you not take joy in the destruction of those who have fallen away from the Lord's grace?"

He wasn't supposed to. A man of God was compassionate, and took no joy in the suffering of others. That is what he had been taught. He said as much to the other man.

"But if you can take joy in their pain, and their sorrow, and they have been so judged by those whose proclaimations speak of His Word, is it sin to do so?"

The fifth key removed the last of the limbs, which he threw onto the fire with the rest.

It would take her far longer to recover if she had to remake them from scratch.

And as even her torso was paralyzed, now, he could enjoy himself.

"I offer you last rites, if you wish to repent before I release your soul from this husk."

Ah, the traditional scoffing. Yes, that was expected, given the pain was no longer enjoyable for her. Not when her disgust at the monster infinitely greater than herself had overcome her.

Her bleeding stopped.

That was fine. He was almost done.

He looked up from his lap in the confessional booth, to the grating at the priest whose name he did not know, whose face he could not see, and his eyes widened ever so slightly.

"Your purpose in God's world is clear, now. And fulfilling it shall be your penance."

Anything.

Just tell him, please!

"For your penance, you have but one task to complete: Reap the sorrow of the fallen."

His heart...

He could feel his heart do something other than pump blood.

He felt it now.

That ever elusive feeling that had died with his wife.

"Father... I accept this task."

A pause, and he knew there was a smile involved.

"Then I absolve you of your sins, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

This was his favorite part.

"Please! Stop, stop, I get it, just... fuck you!"

That cognitive dissonance in which they both hated him, and desired from him something more than they ever wanted anything before.

And the final betrayal, when he drove the blade home for their end.

The fulfillment of his purpose under God.

His sole source of joy and hope.

"... Amen."
