Democracy on Beast's Lair
First Synch (part 1)
========================
Every sensor in the arcology went into overdrive; every magus with the slightest hint of sensitivity to distortions in environmental mana was forced to wake from their beds in shock.
The entire sector was rumbling with the force of the dragon's awakening, so it was a testament to the might of Servant Lancer that its frame need only take three steps back, bracing itself against a nearby structure, to avoid losing its composure. Well, as much composure as a lean warrior of metal and artificial muscle fibers needed.
Then the wind began to blow up from the cracks.
---------------------------------------------------
"Trace, on."
The synchronization had been effortless. His own prana so readily converted into a catalyst for the Servant's reactor core that the entire chamber flooded with a radiant azure glow from the side vents along her legs.
Like stardust.
"Initializing: Boundary Field of the Wind King."
Saber's voice cut through his momentary distraction, and he felt his heart pulse in time with the manifestation of the weapon. A massive invisible blade, wreathed in a torrent of air, appeared in her right hand and shredded even the debris that dared to tarnish her in this moment.
Further introduction would come later.
An inhuman burst of prana surged outward in time with their unified intent, and shattered all that remained of her prison/of what might have been his tomb.
There was an enemy to defeat, and so their union must be flawless.
----------------------------------
The cyclone that emerged reached to the false heavens of the megastructure's ceiling, a terrible grinding roar bouncing off every available angle. At least one of the construction vehicles, unmanned at this hour, was sent far from the ground and away from its original resting place. Debris embedded itself into walls, tore through the windows of empty office buildings, and bounced harmlessly from the spear of Servant Lancer when he deflected it.
Projectiles meant nothing against that legend of Ireland, even in his unsightly form bereft of blood and sweat and adrenaline. Of all the things that made life worth living for one such as him.
All things save one, which finally became visible: a worthy opponent to battle.
There, in the center of the pillar of air, surrounded by an azure corona like the brightest of stars. He could not see his opponent's weapon, and so only his mythic prowess permitted him to know where to evade as the mechanized knight descended on him like a comet.
------------------------------------
They had no need to introduce themselves; the time for honorable introductions and offers of opportunity to surrender or withdraw passed long before Saber awoke. The moment this foe attacked her defenseless Master, they retroactively commenced hostilities.
Shirou's own muted survival instincts were easily subsumed into the uncanny Instinct of the lady knight, and so he had no objections himself.
Their opponent survived by dodging to the left; the only defense available to the Servant Lancer against a weapon it knew not the nature of, that it could not see the length and width of. And the collateral damage, the property damage, that followed in the wake of the attack-!
A burst of prana exploded outward from the point of contact, distorting all plausible estimations of the weapon's shape from the overwhelming force.
Lancer moved in for the kill, while the enemy's weapon was still trapped in the edifice of concrete and alloyed steel. Cursed lance was swung wide at their back, ending the fight in-
-pulse-
A bare arm was swung back at speeds no machine that large should be capable of, wreathed in tangible magic energy to knock the biteless assault away. Like swatting a fly.
Another burst of prana, and Invisible Air was free of the skyscraper once again.
Collateral damage.
No potential causalties, acceptable loss.
The half of the union that could analyze the opponent's weapon immediately went to work doing so, needing no prompting from his new partner in attempting to discern the risk factors involved. Thus, Saber was free to focus on the counterattack-
Lancer silently leapt up and back rather than face the unknown factors of a horizontal assault head on.
That was fine for them; they didn't share a similar ignorance anymore.
Analysis complete.
Gae Bolg, Noble Phantasm rank B.
Wielder: Cu Chulainn.
Potential for instant annihilation of opponent, requires charge to initiate assault.
The split second it took for both of them to take in the basic summary of capabilities was enough for their opponent to begin putting distance between the two of them. Potential preparation for a forward charge?
No, they could also be attempting to utilize their Noble Phantasm.
Instinct denied them the option of holding in place for the next assault, and so Saber launched herself forward with enough force to shatter the ground beneath her adamantine heel. Both hands wrapped tight around the hilt of the invisible blade, and used momentum to drive it down with explosive force against the enemy's spear.
There would be no more dodging.
A clash of steel as haft met edge, sparks burning brightly beneath the artificial night, adding to the corona of power that drove their ever overwhelming motion-!
The flurry of blows that followed lasted mere seconds, and every impact echoed throughout the arcology.
Strike strike strike strike strike
Every assault parried, and even within and as part of this chaos the analytic half of the duo could tell the structural integrity of Lancer's artificial muscles was beginning to strain.
The last strike brought with it the slightest swipe of howling wind, and so sent their foe back many meters towards the center of the ruined dig site. Of course, one so graceful as Cu Chulainn would not lose their footing even in that unnatural frame.
That blow was meant to shatter his defense, not give him distance to reassess his approach.
"Tch."
The first vocalization from either of them was Lancer's. His weapon quickly vanished.
"Looks like our party's over; what a pain in the ass."
-------------------------------------------------
Shirou blinked within the cockpit, then shook his head and groaned.
Damn, what was that just now?
One of the view screens along the side walls was beeping, distracting him now that battle was not immediately upon them and such close union was no longer needed. They were back to being Master and Servant, rather than a single warrior as before.
"... yes, it appears we'll have to postpone the conclusion."
Saber speaking for both of them, now? That was fine.
He knew what that beeping meant anyway; ArcSec was finally on the move, and this battle was far outside the designated combat zone for the Grail War. If they were still fighting by the time the armored division reached them, they'd open fire without a single question asked.
...
Shirou had a feeling that wouldn't really do anything to someone as powerful as Saber, but he'd rather not hurt anyone for doing their jobs.
Or anyone at all, really, but Lancer really wasn't giving them any options here.
-------------------------------------------------
That had been a new experience for her. During the previous war, when Irisviel was her pilot, the synchronization only once reached such an absolute level-
She rapidly blocked that memory out, as the enemy was still in front of them. Grief would not serve either of them in this moment. Neither would spending precious time examining this utterly bizarre Master she'd accepted.
She kept Invisible Air at her side, ready in case the alert was some kind of ruse for their enemy to throw them off; her instincts said nothing of the sort, but one never knew.
The sound of rotors tearing through the sky reached her prison frame's senses, so at least that part was real.

Wow. Got some power going on there, Saber!
(And should I assume that Lancer is running autonomously/off his own AI? No mention of a Master ...)

Such awesome ZOE vibes from this one, man.
And Seika took the words from my mouth.

Love it.
The fight was godly. Poor Lancer only gets one of the things he loves...and we get to see a can'o'woopass opened up.
Greatly done Aiden, I be looking forward to more.
Holy damn Aiden.
Saber's stats are Rin-tier here... this Shirou has REALLY been working out.

I was comparing them to canon Saber under Shirou. Going off the top of my head, these look higher.
Intentional, yes.
I'll note a Servant's stats go down if they're running autonomously in this setting, so it's partly a matter of 'synchronization counts as a proper contract'.
The rest is just a matter of this Shirou having access to his Magic Circuits already, and some of the weirdness going on with those two being hinted at.
