...
[Sign: It has ShirouxAyako and is well written. I have no complains.]
To be fair here, even F/Z seemed to suggest that Kiritsugu's cold, mechanical, efficiency at killing people is a talent inherent to himself - one which he had before Natalia took him under her wing. Using Kiritsugu as a mental frame of reference with Shirou is comparing apples with oranges since Shirou can never achieve that same level of coldness.
Still, I find this to be a good read.
Spoiler:
What Fate/Stay Night character are you?
Kotomine Kirei
You are Kirei. You've always been a little different from the rest. You probably have low social skills. Whatever, it's not like what they think matters anyway. Ever searching for something missing within you, you probably don't experience the same happiness as everyone else. Good and evil are just labels, you are who you are.
I...have nothing to contribute.
Everyone else reasonably brought them up and NAHTCUW addressed them solidly.
All in all, a solid, emotional read. But for some reason I'm imagining Kotomine smirking somewhere, since there wasn't even a mention of him once. But that's just me.
My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
Oh shi- KOTOMINE KIREEEEEI

This fic was/is? awesome! it also sounds very disturbingly close to what we know about EMIYA...Ayako is maybe the unmentioned lover?
yeah, everyone died except Kotomine. Because no vessel for Angra Mainyu=He doesn't care anymore. He did have fun watching it all unfold, though.
THAT'S RIGHT THE ONLY PERSON I DIDN'T KILL/CRIPPLE IS THE PRIEST. and the teacher, but she's irrelevant.
NOPE.jpg@NAHTCUW To be fair, Kiritsugu pretty much turned into that in just one day, IIRC. Sure, he was the son of a Magus, but until he found his father killed that girl and later he killed his father, he had a relatively happy life. And he changed almost immediately in the cold Kiritsugu.
His MoS dilemma was when he shot down the plane with Natalia in it, which was years after he killed his father. Years where he did missions and stuff, in other words killed people(bad people, and for the greater good). He had a lot more shit happen to him pre his MoS dilemma, so he can't really be taken as a baseline for this.
basically, different people with different circumstances.
your routes mean nothing to me. All that is known of this route is Bloodfort->MoS->Everyone is dead. Fill the blank yourselves. And you killed Shinji before Shirou killing Sakura, and the MoS ending is before Shinji is killed by Sakura (and in fact, is what finally broke Sakura and turned her into Dark Sakura)
This was not a story of the Holy Grail war, after all. This was the story of a person who had no idea what was going on, essentially a supernatural story through the eyes of a non-involved casual. That's what I meant when I said I tried something different here. And apparently, I succeeded.
Glad you all liked it, look forward to my other works if you so wish.
Kotomine...
is the priest that marries them in the epilogue.

... Now for some reason I get this weird idea of Kotomine taking MoS!Shirou under his wing and teach him some tricks of the trade... teach the boy so there will be more suffering in the future and Shirou won't just snap & die one day...
I don't know whether I should be appalled at myself for thinking this up >.>
I usually don't like stuff like this but this one was a quite nicely done. Kudos!
Very tragic but well done. On one hand, I think it could've taken Shirou longer to break if he went MoS, but on the other, he's just a teenager, and I can see him cracking under the emotional guilty and whatnot. It's so well done that I liked reading Shirou guilt trip himself, even though I inherently dislike tragedies.
My only complaint would be... MOAR! I would've liked something conclusively Ayako x Shirou or at least a hint of it. This felt mostly like Ayako's one-sided feelings without Shirou reciprocating, not that I would exactly expect much from him given what went on. Maybe a hint of romance like Shirou escorting Ayako out of the hospital, though that might accidentally give it an uplifting feeling unsuited for the tragic genre you got going.
Extremely, ridiculously minor nitpick.
Minori shouldn't really know much about Sakura by the time of the Fifth. As I understand it, he only gets his crush once he enters Homuraba and the Archery Club during the spring. At least I seem to remember that being the implication of the F/HA scenes dealing with him.
I might add more comments later, but you made an Ayako-fic, even if it wasn't a non-romance Ayako-centric fic, which means I now love you forever more.
Ayako x Shirou? My god, yes.
And it was such a great story too! I don't really know what elese to say, except it was fantastic, and thank you for directing me to this story.
