    Fated Unicorn (F/sNXGundam Unicorn)

    Prologue

    Prologue

A young boy, roughly around the age of eight, whose hair used to be brown until someone with a set of hair dye happened to make the hair color change to red, was aimlessly wandering around in a field of fire, with no memory of who he was other than the name "Shirou". Within the field of fire, he heard the cries of people calling for help, but those cries were denied any form of response. It was as if the boy's survival was more important, which was annoying to the boy, because he was now a useless shell of a person that could easily be filled by someone else.

Soon, "Shirou" couldn't walk another step, and collapsed face first. As he turned his body around to correct the position that he was in, he noticed a man that was also on his last legs and aimlessly wandering around as well, until that man headed his way and looked upon him. The man looked as if he had caused a massive sin to emerge, even though his ill-shaven face and scruffy black hair were the worst of his physical appearance, and yet, when the man came upon "Shirou", he gave a look of pure joy, as if he had found a survivor in this literal Hell on Earth, and that, by saving this survivor, both of them would be able to go to Heaven.

As soon as the man decided a good way to save the survivor, he pulled out a strange light from within his coat, one that, when it was put to "Shirou's" chest, was of a soothing nature and able to heal almost any wound so long as it still shone brightly. As soon as the light faded from view, as if it had entered "Shirou" himself, the man closed his eyes and passed on, happy that he could at least save the life of the boy, if anything.

What neither of them knew, however, was that there was a round toy that was trying to enter the field of the fire crying out, "Banagher, Banagher, where are you, Banagher?!"

    ---

A few days had passed since the fire happened. "Shirou" was busy recuperating and trying to regain motor functions when it was finally determined that he would be allowed to have visitors by his head doctor. As soon as the door opened to let in a visitor, a round toy that was commonly called a Haro came rolling in straight to his bed, where he was sitting at, and happily chirped upon arrival, "Banagher, Banagher, there you are, Banagher, I was worried sick!"

As looks of confusion came upon every organic person in the room, the visitor walked in and looked at "Shirou", with instant recognition in the visitor's face. It was as if the visitor, a man that stood at 6'4" and had graying hair and eyes, wearing light-purple pants and shirt under an overcoat of a deeper purple with the Vist Foundation symbol on the left side of the coat near the location of his heart, could easily tell that his family was there in the room, right where the Haro was at. As he pondered what to say to the boy, the man, Cardeas Vist, turned to the head doctor and asked, "Have you determined the genetics of the boy?"

The head doctor, aware of who Cardeas Vist was, faced the man and said to him, "Yes, we have." Turning to face the boy, he said, "The boy was given the identity Shirou Rinkusu, although that wasn't his first name to be given to him, as you might be aware. His birth name is actually Banagher Links-Vist, though he might not recall that detail at all due to brain asphyxiation from the fire." Turning to face Cardeas, who had a look of pure shock on his face from hearing the news, the doctor asked, "What are you going to do with him?"

Cardeas, while thinking of an answer, saw something that was interesting for him, due to wishing he knew more on the details behind Banagher's life before the fire. The Haro, having moved itself in a way to jump onto Banagher's bed, was currently playing with Banagher to help him recall what muscle memory he had about the toy. As Banagher recalled what sort of friend he had in the toy, Cardeas could feel that the time that he missed out on having a hand in Banagher's proper raising was being given to him again, so that he could try fixing the mistakes that were made in the past.

Cardeas then came to a decision, saying to the doctor, "I'll raise Banagher as I should have a long time ago, starting with being the father I am supposed to be, so rest assured that I'm going to keep my word." Walking over to his son, Cardeas saw that Banagher was looking at him with a bit of confusion in his face, which was natural for someone with memory loss. As soon as Cardeas got to the bedside, he took a chair and sat down in it, and then said to Banagher, "Hello, you must be Banagher."

Banagher, still confused, asked Cardeas, "Who are you, mister?"

As a tear was shed on Cardeas' face, he tried to rationalize that his son was still in there somewhere, but his emotions were too great for him to keep them in check at the knowledge that his youngest child didn't recall who he was. He was devastated, in a sense, because he felt that his own flesh and blood should know family right off. With more tears flowing down his face, Cardeas decided then and there to try and explain the history of the Vist family from the beginning of the calendar system to the current day, but in a story fashion.

"I'll tell you a story that would explain who I am, Banagher," Cardeas finally answered, carefully picking his son up from the bed and holding him close to him, with a few servants that decided to help Cardeas out with this visit to the hospital entering the room and gathering Banagher's belongings that were found with him to pack away, not counting the Haro, due to Banagher's attachment to the toy. As Cardeas carried Banagher to the lobby to sign him out, he began the tale of the Vist family, "There once was a man named Syam Vist, your great-grandfather...."

    ---

As soon as the history lesson was completed, Cardeas and Banagher were already driving through the Miyama section of Fuyuki, on their way to the Tokyo Space Port. As the ride was about to get boring, however, Banagher suddenly felt a flash of white accompanied by a great amount of wriggling in his body, which caused him to double over in his seat, causing Cardeas to look at him in worry before yelling at the driver, "Gael, stop the limo, NOW!!"

Gael Chan, an African-Asian man wearing a mostly blue outfit, did indeed stop the limo at that minute. Fortunately for the limo and its occupants, they were on a side-road, so the occupants were saved from a car wreck.

As soon as Banagher showed signs of calming down, Cardeas asked him, "What's wrong, Banagher?"

"Wriggling... in me... worms of... foreign... nature," Banagher got out before he was about to pass out, yet Cardeas deduced that it had to do with a house that they were driving past. He could barely feel something himself, but mainly because he wasn't a Newtype, and yet his son could feel such great and awful sensations from the same location. Carefully catching Banagher and laying him against the door of the limo on his side, Cardeas turned to Gael and instructed, "Gael, call up the local authorities, we need to figure out what's going on here."

"Yes, your excellency," Gael answered, before indeed dialing the authorities to find out what was going on. As soon as he got through, he spoke, "Yes, I'd like to have someone investigate the following address for my boss and his son...."

    ---

Sakura Matou was not sure what was going on, but she felt something strange while being subjected to the worms that her Grandfather kept in the basement, a flash of light flooding her vision as if from behind her eyes. She could feel some sort of warmth from this flash, but she wasn't sure what it was about, other than someone must've noticed her peril and deemed it necessary to give her a savior. She certainly hoped that was the case, anyway, because otherwise she'd break sooner rather than later.

She was soon to discover what was going on, as a ring on the doorbell interrupted her so-called "training session" and forced her Grandfather to get them moved away for a short amount of time, in case of certain people like paparazzi trying to ask questions of the "oldest man alive". When the ringing on the doorbell continued, her Grandfather was visibly annoyed, something that Sakura feared would be bad for whoever was in the area as he walked out to "speak" with whoever was at the door. Seeing that she was able to move about, Sakura got up and discreetly followed her Grandfather to the door, when she found out who was at the door.

"What do you mean, I have the right to remain silent?!" growled out her Grandfather, Zouken Matou, at what appeared to be a group of Earth Federation soldiers that didn't know what they were dealing with, "I've done nothing that would warrant your attention, so just report back to--"

As Zouken was about to hypnotize the soldiers, the leader of the group took out his handgun and shot Zouken in the knees, breaking Zouken's concentration and forcing him to fall onto the ground. "Nice try, old man," the leader shot back at Zouken, "However, we have every reason to believe you've been kidnapping children and forcing them into perverted situations." Looking past Zouken and at Sakura, the leader of the soldiers said in a more gentle manner, "Don't worry, miss, you'll be free to leave here soon, that's a guarantee."

Zouken, enraged that Sakura was even there, snarled out at her, "Sakura, head back into the house and wait for this to be finished up, you're a Matou and my granddaughter!"

"Actually," the leader turned his attention back to Zouken for this, "we don't even have records of your sons having any children, much less daughters, old man." Turning to the other soldiers, he ordered, "Alright, men, do a clean sweep and bring out anything that might incriminate the man fairly!"

"Yes, sir!" barked out the soldiers, before they got into the Matou mansion and started the sweeping of the mansion. After twenty minutes, there was a collection of priceless artifacts that was going to be shipped off to the colonies via orders of the Vist Foundation, and the mansion was almost cleaned out of anything belonging to Sakura when one of the soldiers called back to the leader, "Sir, I found a door in the hallway that looks like part of the wall!"

"What do you mean, Sargent?!" the leader called out to the soldier, almost missing the look of shock that was on Zouken's face.

    Keyword being "almost".

"Okay, men," the leader called out to the rest of the soldiers, "we got something dangerous in the basement, and it needs to be destroyed! Grab the spare Byarlant, we're going to use it to blow the place up, no questions asked!" Hearing the men scramble to follow the order, all the while getting the collection of priceless artifacts safely out of there, he turned his head to face Zouken and said to him, "You'll be serving time in prison for this, I can guarantee it, buster."

Zouken knew this would not end well for him.

Yes, I expanded upon this, and did what I could to make a Nasuverse/Universal Century crossover that might work. If anything, I'd like to say that this idea wouldn't leave me alone when I first thought of it, and the twist about Sakura was something that was more last-minute on my end. Honestly, I wanted to give her a reason to know the main character, and thus give Rin a reason to help out when it's time for the Holy Grail War. Of course, this will be edited to include details I haven't included yet when I think of a way to include them, that's something I'm going to do as soon as possible.

Anyway, I'd link info on the Byarlant, but I don't have the page on hand to show what I mean quite yet. That will be included in the edit, actually, no later. Anything else you guys need me to have explained? Such as what a Newtype is? That will be explained soon enough as well.

Gundam Unicorn specifically, I'm not familiar with - but I know the general tenets of the Universal Century, to a point. Still, it never hurts to be as informative as possible, as long as you don't try to throw it to us all at once.

    Is that so, Kieran?

Hopefully, I can give the needed information soon. In fact, I'm trying to get every bit of detail finished here, so that I can move onto the first chapter.

My general philosophy is to try and balance between assuming my readers are totally familiar with my subject matter, and assuming that they know nothing. It's tricky to do, but I try. I have strong memories of my first weeks here, when I knew nothing of Fate that didn't come from "The Moonlit World" site, and only knew Tsukihime through that site and the anime. A lot of the references people made were confusing as blazes, and it was months before I got corrections. So, write for newbies, but try not to bore the experienced vets. It's not easy, but it's a worthwhile goal, I think.

Thanks for the feedback, and I'll try not to disappoint the fans, for that matter.

By the way, you forgot the end-quote for your message earlier, just to clarify.

Sorry - I'm getting tired. Fixed it, thanks.

And for what it's worth? How you present it can make all the difference. Straight infodumps can be dull, but if you can think of a way to make it fun or interesting to learn, your readers will get a lot more out of it.

Ah, the prologue takes place in UC 0088, right around the end of the 4th Grail War (whatever day they give in Fate/Zero).

After the prologue, it'll skip to the events of Gundam Unicorn, then, after that, it'll move to the Grail War.

Not really, no, Banagher in Gundam Unicorn has brown hair.

Needed a reason why he had red hair here.

Has colonies already launched into space?

As I said, it's Universal Century 0088, they've already been in space for a while now.

Also, I'll fix it so that it's hair dye, not illness (or anything else).

EDIT: Okay, it's fixed, already. Happy now?

If this is UC 0088, definitely. The original Gundam series was UC 0079, and there were already several generations of families living in space.

Huh. Well, my question was actually "Has any colonies dropped yet?" and "Are there Newtype maguses in outer space?" but I'd thought it be best to make sure colonies were in space first.

Oh, so that's what you were trying to ask.

By this point, there were two colony drops (One Year War - a colony hit Sydney instead of Jaburo, thus removing some of the Australian continent and heavily changing the Earth's climate; Operation Stardust - a hijacked colony fell at first in the direction of the moon, only to redirect itself and hit the North American continent). Also, the events of Zeta haven't finished up yet, nor have the events of ZZ even started.

Also, I follow the philosophy of "All Newtypes are magi, but not all magi are Newtypes" for stories like this. I'll have to explain in later chapters how that works out.
