I dunno, people say that Lyse was bad, but the Ala Mhigo resistance getting broken and getting itself together, along with post MSQ stuff had Lyse come into her own as a leader.
The most I can remember her doing before revealing her real name was the fated banquet near the end of ARR, so I can't fathom why people thought she was "better" back then when she got middling screentime.

She wasn't "better", she was a non-entity outside a few short comedy skits. Stormblood was supposed to be her moment in the limelight and, well... she more or less blew it. She got a bit more nuance in the post-MSQ patches, but still not much (to the point where she was the only one excluded from Shadowbringers content, lol).

The way they remixed Battle with the Four Fiends for the new trial sounds a lot like a tribute to Hyadain's ancient video.

Just finished Doma Castle. I was seriously expecting Yotsuyu to end that scene with "The Aristocrats".

I just love her. She's so gleefully spiteful. Why can't she be the main villain rather than Bishie Murder Boner. She's the second best thing about this storyline, aside from everything in the Azim Steppe.

God I loved the Azim Steppe. Though one of my favorite sidequests of all time is in a village next to Castrum Oriens.

All this nostalgia prompted me to try and restart FFXIV... only to find I've forgotten my password and the password reset sequence requires some info I don't have either (like whatever I input as my birthday when I made the account). Support might be able to help me, but...

Nah, it's a really small sidequest about getting flowers for someone. Might be thinking of the wrong Castrum though, I mean the half-ruined one in the Peaks, not the one you start in in the Fringes.

Congrats! Now the hard part is remaining interested enough in furnishing and setting up all of it.

...And I've hit credits on Stormblood. Some really interesting fights in the end, but the backdrop of Ala Mihgo is really bland, especially when the one section that IS intriguing is only the lobby for the last Trial. Got to hand it to Zenos, it takes balls to continually call someone the Eikon Slayer, then try to fight them as an Eikon. "Sure, they've gone 11-0 against them so far, but that surely can't happen again!". I like his ending as well, but I kind of wish they allowed dialogue in that scene, because while Alphinaud and Lyse were trying to stop him, I wanted the option to say "Fucking do it".

Overall, I enjoyed the Doma/Hingashi part, and less the Ala Mihgo ones. There was just more variety there. You have the peasent uprising, but you also have pirates, secret underwater turtle and dragon towns, Mongolian dragons, and a villain that has a compelling motivation aside from 'Blood for the Blood God'.

I guess it's time to get these patches squared away and start leveling the DPS classes, but first thing is to find the start of the Raid questlines and see what kind of gear I can get.

TL;DR Don't turn into a snake Eikon. It never helps.


Edit: Is Y'shtola just Goku? Too broken to be in the main plot so she needs to get sidelined early every new arc and only show up at the end?

So I just hit the part of Post-Stormblood where Asahi shows up for the first time. After taking every "I don't trust him" option so far, I wish there was the chance to say something during his sendoff when he goes full Zenos cultist. Like "Who's Zenos?", "he went out like a chump" or "A geriatric Pope put up more of a fight". I loved cleaning up all the sidequests in the Azim Steepe. It's so interesting seeing even more clans with odd traditions come out of the woodwork from the same place. Like the reverse harem tribe, the Twin tribe, the househusbands, or the poverty monks with acknowledged precognition.

I finished up the FFT Raids. Those are pretty boring environments, but way too busy bosses. Fun ones though, after the first one or two get done. Maybe it'll get better once I'm not going into it blind everytime. (Aside from the chat shouting MATH for 10 minutes leading up to a fight)

The Omega quests feel like a better version of what Alexander was. No mobs or reused hallways, just fights. There were some real amazing fights in there, with great gimmicks. And some real bland ones towards the start.

I'm halfway through the Four Kings series, and I really want to see what they do with the the other gods. Beat the Rathalos too, even though as a healer the last phase was a pain.

I've managed to get all my Healers and Tanks up to 70, and all I have left on DPS is Ninja, Bard, Black Mage and Dragoon. I really hope Dragoon starts to get interesting soon, it's always been the boring one. Monk's constantly rotating, Ninja bursts, Samurai is a collect-a-thon, but Dragoon feels basic every time I play it.

Its does make you think, with all this interconnectivity coming from past series, how much is implied or outright canon. FF7RE had some bits to imply some connections with FF10 too.

So I hit the end of 5.3 and the Tsyukiyomi fight. RIP best girl from Stormblood. You were fucking crazy, but the fun kind. The Trial itself was neat with the middle section, but as a first run the third section was 100% nonsense. I really wanted to call out Bro on his bullshit. Everything from "how can Xenos come for me when I've already stomped his ass 5 levels ago?" to "If I can't kill you because of diplomacy, that you just torpedoed yourself, what is your escape plan?". The play as Alphy segment was a nice surprise, but the aide might have remained a bigger mystery if I hadn't just finished running Prae for tombstones. Speaking of Xenos, that's got to be him in that Elezen body. Which begs the question of if the asshole was actually still alive, or if he just piggybacked on whatever Ascian is puppeting him now.

A funny thing that happens when you play catch up on a years long story is all the "time passed" moments. Just met up with Alphi again at the start of Shadowbringers and he's talking about how he's come a long way from when he bought a priceless artifact without asking the price, and from where I'm standing that was two weeks ago, one of which he spent in a coma and the other hanging out in the not!desert hunting Ascians. I know there's all that stuff about time dilation, and those patches actually being years apart but it's still funny from my PoV right now. Even more so if this deal of his backfires, which I'm giving 50/50 right now going by how Ali's Desert Fun Times turned out.
