You know when I started doing the Shadowbringers Raid series against the FF7 Weapons, I wasn't expecting to get a Gundam storyline.

And I definitely wasn't expecting to pilot a Gundam in gameplay.

Wow, Gaia's terrible. Her character, her face. The only good thing is the outfit. Maybe she should have stayed in the armour. Same with the Legatus in the Weapon series. Sure you get to go all Kamoshida with his face, but when he looks like he's a a 60 yr old country singer there's just some dissonance between the two.

So I'm at the opening of Endwalker. It's actually starting pretty slowly, despite all the urgency that has been shown beforehand. Lots of poking around and investigating, but nothing as big as Journey's Head or Eulmore.

So it seems like we're in for a fun time. Yoshi throwing some shade on the XV development, but I'm glad at least one dev is learning from mistakes of the past somewhat.

I think it'll be a while, since they still have to consider the players who are stuck on PS4.

Eventually that will end, given we are 3 years nearly into the PS5 life cycle, so the rollout will be when they finally say goodbye to last gen.

I think at that point they may even overhaul the game system entirely, if they don't rope Yoshida to do another MMO for XVII or XVIII.

So, I've hit level cap on one job for each role, and am on the cusp of getting to the last zone. Zone 5 was basically just Shadowbringers 2 and ends with a huge emotional gut punch. Now that everyone's talking about the moon all the time, it makes me constantly want a Gurren Lagen quote. "Warrior of Light, what's there left to do about X?" "Row, row, Fight the Powwa".

The role quests are pretty dope though, probably feel better if you don't do them all in a bunch like I did, all about hanging out with the Alliance Leaders. The Seedseer gets probably the first bit of character development ever, Meryl talks about when she became pirate captain, Ishgard is doing more church stuff, Doma is still dealing with people angry at Tsuyu (despite being dead for two expansions), and Ala Mihgo is all about Raubahn letting Fordola out on parole and her being to stubborn to die.

XVI demo is out now; gonna check it out after work. To those who have played it: what are your thoughts?

That demo was cool as hell. I was never concerned about the combat since it's got KH and DMC folks working on it, but I was a bit worried from the trailers that the story/characters wouldn't grab me, but it proved me wrong pretty quick. I'm really interested in where it goes from here. The Game of Thrones comparisons people are making aren't necessarily wrong, but you can also absolutely tell it has a lot of devs from 12 and 14 on it too. Lots of Ivalice vibes, and lots of familiar terminology from 14 like eikon and aether.

I really like the ability to open the lore term glossary at any time during cutscenes, too.

The demo is interesting. I haven't enjoyed a cast this much in any story in a while. Granted it's early but the setting seems quite interesting and they don't hold back. It's also super HYPE with really epic scenes even within that short demo. The direction and choreography is absolutely there in the cinematics.

Is the goat. I need to see some Torgal dominance memes after he grabbed Benedikta by the head and yeeted her ass. That was slick as fuck.

The mother seems like a mega cunt. The way the Father was executed and Murdoch was turned to ash was very nice. They get it across that life isn't worth much and you never know what could happen. The brothers "killing" each other was brutal. Also, the underground fight between Eikon of Fire and Pheonix was sick. Leaping pillar to pillar while Phoenix is flying and evading crumbling ruins was cool as shit.

Just finished it myself. I like the story and characters, but I’m not crazy about the combat mechanics. Also would’ve preferred a more open world that one could explore, as opposed to the “confined level” style.

Still gonna buy the game though.
