BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
Why, FFXIII. You used to be pretty okay. Why?
My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
But they've been ordered to make it better than Skyrim! :V
BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
Making it better than Skyrim isn't going to be hard. Relatively. Making anything better at what it does than how bad Skyrim is at what it does is a piece of marblecake.
Making it LIKE Skyrim is going to be a disaster though, since Skyrim is really nothing like what the japanese are used to do. Or expected to do. X-2 is nonlinear and it's a terrible clusterfuck unless you completely devote yourself to the plot. It expects attention span of you that most gamers just aren't going to have.
Relatedly, FF XIII wasn't a bad story or a bad jrpg per se, but it was a terrible game, because there was nothing to do except for the story and the story just gave all the tools for fightan away for free. Interestingly enough, IV was supposed to be the innovative title, yet it did the exact same thing, finding secret passages was basically the only thing not part of the storyline. It also had a sequel that pretended to be fragmented, but was actually a set of linear tunnels meant to be passed through in a certain order.
It doesn't have to be a full area of minigames like Gold Saucer either. Or everything from a certain point except the final dungeon being voluntary, like World of Ruin. It can just be a single abandoned research lab or a city buried under the ground, full of backstories, fluff, overleveled enemies and broken accessories. That is classic. Is that so hard?

So Lighting Returns.
It looks good. It looks great. Why are you making me buy another game Square. You are supposed to suck.
Year 1
Salt Corner
Well that certainly looks more entertaining than the previous battle system
Instantly god mad at the masamune on her back.
Either it's sheathed and she won't be able to ever pull it out, or it's going to keep stabbing her legs with the way she runs.
Literally a dress-up game. Loving Dragoon though.
Got Theatrhythm. It's nice, but I agree with that complaint I've seen before about the DLC. Was hoping to hear the Dissida remixes of the earlier titles, since I thought those were pretty good. Maybe that's also DLC, haven't checked yet.

Dunno if this is also going to imported here.
aaand the DLC is already so infamous that there are already doujins about her running around in the cat suit because she lost her mind.
seriously this outfit is even harder to take seriously than Milla's and Reid's outfits combined.
So, why France?
So I've been watching the Lightning Returns bossfights.
The fighting system looks... horrible. Not mechanically, visually. The stuff that hurts doesn't look like it does and it's just a person and a thing standing next to each other with spherical graphic effects without telling purpose and flashes all over the screen. Holy shit this is the single most Weeabbo Fightan Magic game I've ever seen.
Shame because everything else about the game looks good and fighting system is the thing that they've hyped up.

People who got hit hard got knocked over in the fiirst game and explosions generally looked like they hurt stuff(though ruin was still incredibly boring looking considering how important it was). This shit looks like a one on one in DotA.

yeah but you generally had to rely on auto-battle half of the time because you didnt have enough time to really think out a strategy and input the commands (not that it even mattered) before your gauge was full...
though i didnt actually play much of it yet, i just got incredibly bored of it at the end of the frozen sea in the beginning so maybe itll get better.

Hm Snow looks pretty cool now though.

but yeah you're right, with the way they're overdoing it with the spherical light effects, its hard to see the special effects of the actual attacks.
So...anyone here play XIV?
My little brother practically demanded I try it out, since it was/is half-off recently (he tried it out then too), and, surprisingly enough, I like it.
