It's about the expectations- you get into a new Jojo expecting at least one emotional death, and you certainly expect to see blood in Saw: Anime Version. People that got into Prillya early, or worse yet got into Prillya via the anime, signed up for a cute and funny (and occasionally ecchi) shonen/magical girl show, Not For This.
Kimetsu no Yaiba's ending was kind of a trashfire in all honesty but either way the deaths were all telegraphed extremely early on, literally from chapter 1 when is digging through the corpses of his whole family.

It's literally just a bullet that fucks mages, no mana was mentioned when Kiritsugu shot it at people, from a gun

Once and always and nevermore.
Well, yes. But then that again goes against the really broad generalizations I was going against. The purpose of my posts was to argue against generalizations, not to argue against those who dislike what Prisma has become with 3rei and this latest chapter in particular

I don't keep up with the series, but isn't Nezuko the main reason that people even watch/read Kimetsu no Yaiba? So unless the story killed her off, there would be little difference between some demon slayer dying vs. one of the demons (who are infinitely more interesting) dying (which happens very frequently).
Barring ending the series, I doubt that the story would perma-kill Kuro, given that she represents half the reason most people even stick with the series. It's like how they only killed Rumpelstiltskin in Once Upon a Time only at series' end. Before, when he was killed, the story literally sacrificed his less popular son to bring him back to life.
Prillya was never a classic mahou shoujo, its one of those big boi mahou shoujo for adult male otaku. Hiroyama (maybe) having the balls to kill her off is unexpected but not particularily shocking taking into consideration how far its contemporaries go. Cant believe you guys are havigng a meltdown over this shit.
Eh. There's mahou shoujo for otaku that don't kill the main cast, like Nanoha, Symphogear, Yuuki Yuuna (the only deaths there are in prequel cast, not the main cast we follow for the anime. so nothing compared to killing Kuro) or Soushin Shoujo Matoi.
Anyways Prisma was advertised and seemed to be about Illya forcing mahou shoujo perfect happy ending on a Fate story, no matter how hard she has to fight to earn it, so it feels lame if it goes for ANOTHER dark mahou shoujo story like Site, Raising Project and others and ANOTHER Fate story where everyone can't be saved. Honestly, I mentioned Nanoha and this feels like when Nanoha went edgy with FORCE and people rejected that hard. Well, that and the focus on a dude

Even Madoka reset the universe (and by the glory of the Daedric Princess Homura, Madoka herself even managed to get another physical body to enjoy it) and even made a spinoff with Magia Record with all the previously "killed off" characters. But yes, there's a reason what that edgy Nanoha never got an anime.
Hell speaking of edgy mahou shoujo, isn't Sailor Moon among the edgiest, except Sailor Moon literally wiped out Chaos and resurrected the entire universe in her setting at the end?
Sailor Moon is as edgy as a pillow. Characters die, but they get brought back literally the next episode. I think the only one who stays dead is Hotaru's dad, and he made a deal with the devil.
Binged All Of Gundam In 4 Years, 1 Week and All I Got Was This Stupid Mask
FF XIV: Walked to the End
Started Legend of the Galactic Heroes (14/07/23), pray for me.
I mean, the only "pure" mahou shoujo left is probably PreCure, and even that has been pandering more and more to the male audience with the huge fight scenes (to say the least).

fuck Yuuki Yuuna, that ain't mahou shoujo that's just (emotional and literal) torture porn.

Same way I have to deal with Franxx being mecha, you have to deal with Yuuki Yuuna being mahou shoujo. Not like I see why it's that the one that triggered that response instead of say, Site. Emotional and literal torture porn applies far more to Site than it does to Yuuki Yuuna, imho

one can only wonder what happened to takahiro in early 2010s to make him transition suddenly from comedic brosquad eroge to akame ga kill and yuuki yuuna
I was typing this long, rambling reply on my thoughts about these latest developments, but I've decided to cut it down to a few sentences.
I don't think we'd of had the entire series up until this point show us Illya and co. defying the odds if the point was to teach us the futility of idealism. I think Kuro's death was scripted out so abruptly cause they didn't want to waste pages on a red herring, I think the death is a stop-gap to switch gears in the coming chapters, I just don't know to what gear.
Everything we've seen so far isn't an asspull or drop in writing quality in my opinion. Practically everything we find out is merely an extension on what we could have inferred from previous data, just because it goes a bit more ham or chuuni than people were expecting isn't really a problem with the story as they've basically been embracing ham since magical girls beat up the King of Knights.
At this point in the story (Unless they do a part 4) I'm not expecting anything new in terms of story elements, they have all the pieces, its just a matter of putting the puzzle together, and that's what basically has me interested.
P.S. The Magni card is still out there, hopin' Bea comes to smack Darius for hoggin' her man.
Honestly hoping Darius is done. Only so much "You thought you won, but I'm back!" I can take. They still have Pandora, the Cube, Sakura, Gil, Kirei, and Tanaka to work through in terms of content. Let Darius be defeated. There enough other options to continue this.
Also, that's the 1990's anime. The manga and anime are actually pretty divergent.
