Huh. That's a weird way to do it. But about the level of strangeness I expect from a JP company still adapting to the internet 20 years late.

Maybe they doing it to not kill BD market or something, it's my best guess.
Probably. But they still don't get that if people are going online and can't find the thing they're looking for officially, they'll go unofficial right after. At least by putting everything out there themselves, they at least get the ad revenue.

Yeah, imo as long as you have the 0079 movie trilogy you should be fine jumping in. That's what I used; I've never seen the actual TV series from start to finish. And I got at least 80% of the references/changes without any issue.

Yeah, the fact that they're even trying is the best we can hope for lol. The full TV series is on Crunchyroll (as is SEED Freedom! I need to see that), and the movie trilogy on Netflix, so at least it's somewhere officially.
Watched Gquuuuux.
Not into the designs as a reinterpretation of UC suits aside, but I really enjoyed the movie. It is fast, but not like original and Zeta trilogy directionless fast, I wasn't irritated with the pacing at all.
I am a hater of Multiverse/What if that tells different interpretation of the same character, but so far I enjoyed the whole alt UC thing here. As far as I remember, Char and Kycilia act the same way I expected them will do from the original iterration. And the reference to the OG + Axis Shock/green thingy from CCA/Unicorn makes me really think that the mechanic stay the same.
The new characters introduced nicely so far, they feels independent but at the same time feels like a classic Gundam beginning of falling into cockpit and dragged to the mess.
Spoiler:
Talk about swings and roundabouts. We went from bottom of the barrel in G Gundam to the absolute hype that was Witch from Mercury's debut (season 1 only though).
As an aside, Dunbine being in there really sticks out like a sore thumb. Normally they at least pair it up with other fantasy-esque series like they did last time with Rayearth, but I think it was the only magical related franchise they showed. Not that I'm complaining mind you, Dunbine is one of my all time favourite mech series.

I haven't seen a ton of Gundam shows (just G and Witch From Mercury) but this was probably the best first episode of the ones I have seen. Take's character designs look fantastic too.
It's great to hear that. I thought the reference heavy first part will makes newcomer can't watch it, glad I was wrong.
I've seen a lot of Gundam, and I found this first episode fairly average, but definitely worthy of a continuing watch. Take's designs are great, and the the overall visual direction feels pretty solid (I'm not fond of the mechs we've seen so far, but I am in favor of more divergent mech design styles for the franchise on principle even if I don't love the outcome in this case), but the episode suffers from the same problem that most Gundam first episodes do, namely that it rushes to introduce the lead suit at the expense of aught else. I expect to getting a more concrete feel for the show and its cast in the next episode or two so I can develop more substantial thoughts. The flashbacks coming up might change my mind about the premise too, which I'm not exactly fond of at a glance, though obviously not enough that I won't watch the show.

I'm asking because I did want to go see it, but it didn't wasn't screened in my country so...
It looks like the movie is just the first 3 or 4 episodes. Just shown in a chronological order starting in 0079.

Ok, that's about what I thought. Thank you.
Also, I didn't even notice I had a stroke during that last post, jesus.
Ok so I just watched episode 2 and it turns out they cut a lot of stuff from the movie from this episode. The second section about the Feds trowing an asteroid at the moon is a one minute summery in the TV airing, but in the movie it's a 15-20 minute sequence full of Char being Char, Zabis being Zabis and some implied light fratricide. It's really really good.
So yeah, I guess if you liked EP 2 in particular, go watch the movie to get it doubled in length.

If it ends in a 10 minute silent elevator ride, do you think people would be angry or just think it was an Eva reference and love it?

just depends on the execution. Disliked Witch by the end because it just decided to solve every problem in like 2 episodes at the end.

Quite a number of remaining Gundam series were revealed in the second trailer for SRW Y...and Godzilla!?
