Gundam Thread

Trailers have been released for a new Gundam series. Normally, this should be a time of celebration amongst long time fans such as myself. (Personal favorites of mine are the UC setting, Turn A, Gundam X and Gundam 00....but that's not important)

With that being said, I'm honestly not sure what to think of this:

At first glance, it appears that maybe it's a threat of aliens, although it's too early to say. This was a concept first teased in Gundam SEED for a split-second, then a major theme in Gundam 00, and finally conclusively dealt with in Awakening of the Trailblazer, 00's film tie-in. If this is right, then Gundam is looking a lot more like Macross as time goes by.

Unsure whether or not this is a good trend to follow, even though 00 dealt with this fine.

At least the mook suits are cool looking. But the character designs are fugly, and that somewhat lackluster animation not for the enemy suits.... >_>;;
Definitely not Gundam 00/Unicorn going on here.

I'm still going to watch before I make any final judgment calls on it, though.

Thoughts? First impressions? Announcements?

It....it's like Astroboy crossbred with Detective Conan and was raised on reruns of Universal Century. And not in the good way. I just can't get behind those character designs. I hope to God that the plot makes up for it, otherwise I'll end up being severely disappointed.

My first impressions of this aren't very good, to be honest. Except for those gargoyle/dragon suits. Those are kind of cool.

I guess it's going to be much more light-hearted in comparison to the other Gundam shows? Maybe. But we know how well that worked out for ZZ Gundam...

It's almost as if Sunrise were thinking "You know what everybody? There's no way that we can top our previous series (Gundam 00), so let's not even try and go for something different on the level of hit-or-miss and wing it, a'ight? We're going to sell model kits regardless, so why bother? If we can't surpass ourselves..."

First impressions aside, I'm more than willing to give this one a shot. It would appear as if this series will be treading new ground, so we'll see how it turns out.

00 was awful. My farts top it on a regular basis. (S1 was pretty good though. It's S2 and the movie that are ear bleedingly awful.)

AGE is going to span 100 years with 3 generations of characters, with a single boy pilot in each of the 3 generations. They will AGE and live in different AGEs.

It is going to be fucking awesome.

(And if it isn't, I can still just watch Unicorn and the ORIGINS.)

Also, I remember another mecha series that had childish designs. Maybe you know about it.

Regardless of my misgivings, I still have high hopes for this series. May Sunrise not let us down, and may this series be an example of Different not equaling a Bad Thing.

Let's see here...

Since they're going for a rather old-school kind of look for the character designs and some of the mech designs, it might be possible that AGE could end up being the "Gurren Lagann" of Gundam. What with the possible chances of having shout-outs and callbacks to its predecessors while ultimately maintaining something exciting and fresh. This show could very well end up being a love letter to the franchise as whole.

My thoughts on the matter. We'll see how correct I am come October.

Pardon the somewhat of an overreaction. It's not bad, it's just....different. I'm just used to Gundam being, well, not looking like that. Megaman-y character designs + Gundam = MIND BLOWN


They'll take some getting used to, that's for certain.

Somehow it feels like fail. It's like the protag gets younger and younger. Next time on gundam... genius 3 year old newtype saves humanity.

It might just be the animation but still (like megaman as IRUN said). Everyone looks short. But hopefully it'll be okay once I get over that and the CG spaceship.

The protagonists are 13, 14, and 15.
Basically every Gundam protagonist that ever existed in a main Gundam series is one of those ages, with G Gundam and Gundam 00 as exceptions (Setsuna's 16).

08th MS Team has a 22yr old as the MC.

0080 has an elementary schooler, even though he didn't pilot.

0083's MC was in his 20's

Then again, those may be from the UC timeline but they aren't exactly 'main'.
