can you put psycho frame in there?
They’re stealth training pilots for when the unveil to the world that their life-sized gundams are actually functional.
I just finished Zeta, and I gotta say, these last episodes are awfully disappointing.
The show keeps trying to make me care about Jerid's growing obsession with revenge but I just don't. I did feel for his first two losses, but Mouar just appears out of nowhere, attaches herself to him, then dies. Not to mention that instead of starting out as a decent guy and descending into the path of vengeance, he's just an asshole all the way through.
Everything about and around Reccoa is awful, just some of the worst writing in the series. She goes from traumatized soldier who can't feel alive without putting herself in danger to a maniac who's willing to support and cause literal genocide so Scirocco and Yazan can dom her.
Rosamia gets introduced just so we can waste more time with the kids (who have no reason to even exist) and then rehash Four's character, except this time with absolutely no emotional attachment. Four had a touching moment with Kamille that was the basis for everything between the two, meanwhile Rosammy... is a lunatic the whole time and people tolerate it for some reason?
They try to weave this conflict around Sarah and Katz and it just doesn't work from her side. I get Katz, but Sarah's dynamic with Kamille is just much better, and he's the one with whom she actually got to live a regular life for a brief moment.
The final battle was actually doing well (aside from Reccoa) until the newtype superpowers show up. It goes from connecting with and being able to understand other people (even dead ones) to... absorbing life, manifesting force fields, creating lasers, channeling the power of ghosts and... detroying someone's soul? I know I should've been sad for Kamille at the end, and I did like him, but I was just too baffled by what had actually happened.
Just... what the fuck? I know Cyber-Newtypes had the connection with their mobile suits, and Char off-handedly mentions once they can posses other Newtypes, but it's not enough to justify all of that happening abruptly and at once.
Hamam Karn and Char are the only saving graces in this mess of a finale.
At least we got some cool mobile suits I guess. Palace Athene, Baund Doc and Gabthley are awesome, and Qubeley is the best design in the series so far. Just look at this!
Spoiler:
Holy shit this makes me want to get a gunpla.

Ooh, ZZ is next! Get ready for some tone shift so hard it'll snap necks.

I've heard that a lot and because of that I was watching the first episode right away and... yeah, that's a big change.
ZZ is probably the closest thing Gundam has to a comedy series. Judau is such a moron, I love it.
Binged All Of Gundam In 4 Years, 1 Week and All I Got Was This Stupid Mask
FF XIV: Walked to the End
Started Legend of the Galactic Heroes (14/07/23), pray for me.
It's definitely bad, but it feels more like a symptom of the overall problem of inconsistent writing.
Tbh I'm kinda done with Gundam's storytelling and themes at this point. I'm going to keep going through the UC because the mechs are still cool and I want to see where Char and Haman end up, but my expectations are low and I'm looking forward to seeing entries not written or directed by Tomino.

While Zeta is certainly marmite, I would recommend checking out the beloved "War in the Pocket" OVA series if you need a quick break to recharge your batteries - it's not written by Tomino, it's very short at only 6 episodes and it's set between OG and Zeta so you can jump in whenever you want now.
Definitely one of the best things Gundam put out imo.

Haman is the heroine, Ple who?
Liking Palace Athene is extremely valid and it is wasted to its pilot sadly.
War in The Pocket is pretty nice, I also think that the 08th MS Team is pretty well done most of the time.

Holy shit War in the Pocket is a punch to the gut. I spent the entire thing thinking that however it ended, it wouldn't affect me much because the tragedy was pretty obvious, but I was expecting some "everyone dies" kind of thing, not their struggle to end up in failure and pointlessness... Fuck
