I joined two years too late...
I was sort of skeptical of the aerial CB, but it's a lot of fun. Getting a midair KO is the best.

So I fought this stupid shitty Uragaan thing and it owned the fuck out of me after eating 2 supermodes and just generally being an annoying piece of shit which usually only exposed the one part of its body all my fucking attacks kept bouncing off. I was mad at how long this dumb thing took so I proudly exclaimed "at least I didn't get carted yet" before promptly doing just that. After it finally slept I went over to it and set my trap because fuck fighting it for any longer.
In the middle of doing that one of the stupid tiny adds knocks me right out of the trap lying process and wakes it up, and its no longer limping.
By that point I lost most of my potions already and accidentally drank one more cold drink than I wanted to. Tilt status: Full. I just started throwing 4 poison knives at it as stress relief.
Fight continues. Thing isn't limping, I run out of potions as well as cold drinks, burning and low on health I already think of abandoning it just to save potions now that I kinda got its moveset. Get killed a 2nd time.
By now abandoning was probably the smartest thing but I was so fucking mad at it I just wanted to keep hacking at it. So I run over to it. See it. Throw my last poison knife at it.

Abandoning is never worth it. always worth it to have palicos steal some mats or pick up shiny drops.
also, went to get wyvern eggs. Suddenly, flagship monster. I fight it for 35 minutes like a fucking champ, breaking every part of its body. It never even starts limping. Gen, if you're going to make me fight monsters, don't randomly give them 3x health.

I did the exact same thing with the mammoth flagship. I saw it and decided to have a go with aerial dual blades, kicked it's ass pretty badly but it wouldn't limp. After 2 carts, 35 minutes and running out of heals i said hell with it and turned the quest in.

I did that as well, but i didn't expect it so i didn't have enough pots to finish the fight.
Was ready for the bubble dragon and killed it in and the bulldrome in 40 minutes.

Okay, which Monster Hunter should I start off with, Generations or 4 Ultimate
Just wait a few months and get double cross when it releases over here. Gen is a lot more fun than 4U with the styles (also I'm not sure how many people will be playing 4U so online might not be great). But as double cross is basically Gen+ I would say wait for that.
If you can't wait though I would suggest picking up 4U, it will be a load cheaper, it will let you get an idea of the game and you won't get annoyed about having to get Gen and double cross later.
I'm annoyed with double cross, I know that it's just Gen with a bit added, but I also know that i'm going to get it and pay a load of money for it.

According to Kiranico it exists but I haven't been able to find anything about it anywhere else. I'm starting to think Kiranico is wrong here, I hope it's not because that quest looks awesome for farming elder dragonbone.
Also something I have learned today, Adept style makes Deviljho ridiculously easy.
Uh, other than be HR Break, I think that's a quest that may cycle. You might need to do gathering quests and quick succeeding until it shows up. That or it's locked behind some village quest.

I can't imagine how 'A Relatable American Character' fits in within a Monster Hunter story, but you know, maybe Anderson should have gone for a more, 'How to Train Your Dragon' style, instead of a 'Beyond Loch Ness' but in Los Angeles because everything is better in LA fuckin' 'Merica' style. For the record, Beyond Loch Ness is one of the original Sy-Fy channel movies that are so bad that Rotten Tomatoes refuses to rate them because they just aren't worth reviewing. Incidentally, it has the absurd line, "She took out my family, now I'm takin' out hers!" said completely seriously, from an American, about Nessie. That is an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back.
