Now those are interesting. I don't see much between Ayako and Saber, but Ayako and Rin... I dunno, she seems to look out for Rin in sort of the same way she looks out for Shirou. As a sibling or a very good friend lets say.
Ayako and Fake Assassin, now there's something to think about. Ayako is always loud, fast and full of energy! Maybe Assassin can temper that a little. It could work well...
I'm personally interested in how Ayako and Archer would interact. Just kind of wonder what kind of effect his cynicism would have on her.
And just for the record I find Rider chasing Ayako to be incredibly adorable as well ^_^
There's a Hollow Ataraxia scene where Saber talks about Ayako. Apparently they hit it off really, really well, and Ayako is almost ecstatic when Saber beats her in martial arts.
Remember, Ayako prices martial arts skill really, really highly.

Also, Ayako is very controlled, in many ways. She just enjoys life. No reason she needs tempering...
Ayako x Rin is mostly just playing up their pre-existing rivalry and relationship to higher levels. The do care a lot about each other in various ways.
The biggest problem with pairing Ayako with anyone is that she for the most part doesn't show a lot of out and out attraction. She likes people to be sure, but attraction is rarely seen.

I had in fact assumed that the Ayako x Saber idea came from HA which I haven't read. Heh...
And yes, I had kept in mind the martial arts aspect of it. Ayako still strikes me as the type of person to be caught up in pragmatism. Someone to just make her stop and think. With that in mind, Assassin is/was always very much a romantic at heart. Which is why I really do like the idea.
For the most part, Ayako strikes me as the type of person to make friends before thinking about romance. Just a feeling I get, is all. Romantic attraction would easily get lost in there when she's in public.

Well, I don't think it has so much to do with slowing down, as I think it might have to do with context. If she just gets in a situation where she is forced to think about it, she'll figure it out on her own after all...
And then pursue it with all the determination of a person that dedicates her life so strongly to something she likes, and with all the grace of a girl that is a little too direct and clueless about romance...
And it will be adorable.
Anyway, the scene in F/HA I'm referring to is actually a Himuro/Saegusa/Makidera scene, but at the end of it Saber is going to meet with Ayako, and there are some interesting comments from Taiga and Saber.
