Wait, doesn't the fact that he was working on this up until last year contradict some interview with one of the VAs saying they finished their recording years ago? Or is it a sort of "last minute I decided to change a few things" sort of deal?

I think it was Ciel's VA(?) saying the audition was held some years ago, not the recording.
By the way, per TM Ace 13, Akiha's VA mentioned she had auditioned for other roles as well and was surprised that she got to play Akiha.
Looking at the download size for Twitch and PS4...nope I'm not buying these 2 vers. Gonna have to settle with a Switch emu.
I only know her roles in videogames, like Homura/Hikari(Xenoblade 2) and Shionne(ToArise).

No, but people expect PC games to cost less, and therefore buying them from Steam or similar storefronts will usually be cheaper. Extella is cheapest on PC.
Okay, the game runs fine on emulators. I'll be reading at the speed of a turtle, but whoever wants to experience the game that way will be able to do so.
How much additional content is downloaded after starting the game? I want to be cheapskate and see if I can do just fine as I am atm.

Judging from the file extensions, the remake apparently wasn't made on kirikiri, but HuneX instead.

The following are inside the game's files:
"ja" "ja2" "ja3" = three folders each containing a font file: TT_TsukiMin-D.ttf, TT_TsukuGo-D.ttf, and FOT_SeuratPro-M.otf.
"movie" = folder containing all the movies. They're all .mp4 that can play with no problem. The prologue, the credits, and the day title cards are all movies.
"shader" = folder containing .bnsh files. By the filenames they're all for sfx and transitions.
"stream" = voice lines and bgm. They're all .opus, but I can't get them to play on my laptop.
A multitude of files with .hed, .mrg, and .nam extensions. These are all files used for the HuneX engine. HuneX is mentioned in the credits, so we have a confirmation on what engine the remake is using. I managed to find some old-ass tools for extracting data from HuneX games, but the most I can do is open some of the archives, since extracting stuff from them doesn't output anything usable. Some of the archives outright won't open though. This definitely ain't the HuneX version those tools were created for. Of interest are the following files:
allpac.mrg = The biggest file in the entire game, with over 16GB in filesize. Most image files should be in here.
allpaccg.mrg = 2GB. Should be the CGs, according to the filesize.
allui.mrg = 73 MB. UI elements most probably.
knife1.bfsar = 395 MB. According to google, .bfsar is a type of sound effect archive used in Mario Kart. The SE should be in here.
script_text.mrg = 5 MB. Exactly what it says, I assume.
