Hmmm, pretty sure her ME was on. I remember gold eyes from that thing, and she says something about replacing her desire to suck blood with a desire to kill (see the pile of Dead she butchered in the alley), but stated she switched to a different impulse when Shiki shows up. The impression I got from that was him eating her ME, which starts as "murder," and changes to "screw." Your choice there is to resist or not. I didn't read that as his instincts; MEoE is specifically stated to override your emotions with those of the user, to the point of potentially destroying the victim's mind. And again, Arc is quite a bit more powerful than Shiki, especially at a distance, aware of him, and in kill mode.

I had a thought that, IF nasu was actually working on the remake, you think he had to do rewrites to the script due to the sheer difference in era's culture/feel/tech (2008ish vs 2020)

Where does this idea that tsuki:re has to conform to the modern day come from? People keep talking about this stuff like Kohaku needs to follow new trends and Nasu has to rewrite all the references and stuff but like, where was this said? Because why would he do any of that when remaking a game which story didn't even deal with contemporary issues so there'd be no point in having it set in modern day as opposed to its initial setting?

As far as I remember, two. The Mystic Eyes scene on Arcueid's route, and the one done by Roa in Ciel's route. The Len scene can be that (on the receiving end) depending on your choice, IIRC.

And with Kagetsu there's Flower of Thanatos.

That reads more to me like because they changed the setting to a big city like Tokyo rather than the whatever-town of the original game, they also had to up the "modernity" to fit the feel of a big city more (hence Arc's redesign and stuff like that). I wouldn't really reach as far as to say it means it now takes place in modern day 202X with contemporary references. It's just more​ modern.
