Illya is best servant
Thinking about it, would the cats still die in the remake?
"It all comes down to this." Shirou felt old age catching up to him. The white hair on his head should be an obvious sign regarding his age but that would have been an obvious answer should his magecraft had not altered his hair pigment over the years.
The heavy bag underneath his eyes on the other hand, should be the main indicator to show how tired he is dealing with magical nonsense for many years. An unforgettable experience in South America came to his mind the exact moment he;s facing down a gigantic chimera created from The Book of Darkness. Needless to say, the old magus felt that sensation in his bones that the confrontation with the cosmic horror won't be easy like he would have wanted it to be.
His old bones ached, feeling fatigue after years and years of combat against impossible odds. The scars left behind on his body was never healed thanks to Avalon being returned to its rightful owner awaiting for him in Avalon. The magus cursed, his neck felt off with a sound of a crack just as he flexed it.
His fingers felt the phantom pain of the blisters back when he wielded swords for many years before he retired. Just like an action hero from the movies, the magus returned back to service the moment a crisis showed up in front of his doorsteps. The magus did not mind, a peaceful life is perhaps beyond his reach as he is still continuing to pursue an impossible dream and a chance to meet the King of Knights once again after he dies.
His mind focused towards the abomination in the middle of the lake. At his age, nobody would have blamed him for suffering Alzheimer. He may have forgotten what his beloved Altria Pendragon look like but he sure did remember falling in love with her.
The years has not been kind to someone like him but the experience he accumulated over the years was a trade-off. In a literal sense, he armed himself.
As such, it would be expected to have Unlimited Blade Works to take over the giant bounded field casted by the chimera of alien origin. The endless desert is covered with swords from his travels around the world all his life along with the accumulated experience he gathered from each and every weapon he possessed.
"I have to clean up after you kids......" Like a grumpy old man, Shirou muttered to himself. " What a bunch of hellraisers." He chuckled, remembering how he used to be a troublemaker himself.

Poor mooks. Even the cats' lives are more important than theirs.
By the way Shikyo. Keep the tense consistent. I only skimmed it, but that really stood out. I know your English isn't the best, but that's the basics of basics.
Hmm, people are bringing up Ayako being the tragic heroine, but... I kinda prefer AyakoxRider...
Ah, but what if it was a love triangle between Signum, Rider and Ayako (well, more like Signum and Rider had one-sided feelings for Ayako or something)?
Rider and Signum in a rivalry somewhat similar to Rin and Luvia's as a result.... Dammit, this is so unlikely though, because no one (here) likes Rider... :P
This is how you smalltext

Who said we don't like Rider? Rider is awesome! Of the female Servants in Fuyuki, easily the best for me. She isn't as boring as Saber or as... bitchy as Caster.
Spoiler:
In the first place, fraggle already mentioned his difficulties with shipping, so adding yuri options isn't really helping.
I have to agree with this. Personally I am of the opinion that playing Signum as the straight up Lady of War might do well and avoid any shipping with her altogether. Granted this is without knowledge of key plot points, but still. And if shipping must be done with her then perhaps a more subtle course would work rather than something saccharine and overt.
I'm thinking that with ships, see if there's any relevance at all to the plot before trying to officialize anything. Using that line of thinking I've managed to square away Shirou's situation in Vajra, so perhaps it'll help here.
The Art of Shipping is as profound as it is dangerous; not for the faint of heart nor the weak of will, it makes gods and devils out of us all.
