The fact is he is gonna get his face pounded in repetitively during the BoD arc, and that just gonna be sad to read while listening to emiya (you all listen to it while reading too, don't lie to me)
He can always trace Mid-Childian devices shaped and designed in the form of close-quarter weaponry.
He just needs more time to analyze it.
Its not like these blades are made of Ea-material or crafted with knowledge of the True magics.
They're just made with Magi-Tech Hyper-Science.
It should be within the capabilities of Shirou to trace.
Though....The complicated internal structure should require a massively increased amount of time to visualize.
So, unsuitable due to long prep time.
I'd say that the problem with him tracing devices is not that their Mid-Childan/Belkan, but rather that they are quasi-sentient computers- I mean, he might understand the weapon aspects of say, Laevantein, but the actual device portion would probably be beyond him

Tracing and Sketching.
I'll ask you to do two things.
Sketch a waterfall.
And trace a waterfall from a picturebook.
As proven by Avalon.
If he has a complete enough image, he doesn't need to understand it.
He can just project it.
EDIT: Stick a device in him. Internal implants to keep the jewel seed under control.

That's basically how UBW works anyway right? Its lets him memorize the blueprint of a weapon, and as long as it is somewhere under the general definition of a sword its instantly stored there without him having to even analyze it, Ea only fucks with him cause he cant even understand the blueprints, the thing is just far to alien.
Another snippet about Hayate and the Black Knight
Dinner
Hayate's first attempt to make amends of what her knights has done is to invite everyone to dinner at her house.
This of course includes Admiral Lindy and officer Chrono from TSAB plus Yuuno.
The only problem is; everyone including Nanoha-chan's family is wary of her black knight. This takes back during his earlier attempts to take them down where the fight somehow involved the said girl's family getting in a short but intense show of swordsmanship and destruction of their property. The signboard was used as a weapon to literally defend himself against Kyouya-san's slash and was literally thrown at Miyuki-chan at which their father was able to save her in time. Cooking utensil were not safe from his 'influence' as Momoko-san said.
His fight with the incoming forces from Fate, Nanoha and Chrono on the other hand, is a different thing.
Flashback 1
Fate and the Mad Knight is locked in an intense close quarters combat, the lamppost that was literrally ripped out of the ground is used to counter all of the slashes from Bardiche. The skills of the knight outstrips the girl as she has to rely on protection spells to block his attacks while parrying it with her device at the same time.
Flashback 2
"Why are you doing this? I don't remember harming you to deserve this!" She charges her device up in the air, pointing her staff towoards the black knight.
The said black knight on the other hand, threw the lamppost he literally ripped out from the ground at her direction.
"If you won't tell me, then how am I supposed to help you!" She unleashes starlight breaker directly at him.
Flashback 3
The Mad Knight grabs one of the swords from Chrono's attack, countering other swords with swiftness of a warrior surpassing the Belkan Knights in terms of skills.
As for TSAB, let's just say that Lindy's house on Earth nearly became an ideal battlefield for the black knight. Well, the place does need redecorating anyway.
Oh, and about their ship-

"The worst possible outcome, the knight has made his way inisde the ship......." Amy shuddered. "DON'T LET HIM TOUCH ANYTHING!" She shouted to the crew, all personnel equipped with devices that apparently the black mad knight can just grab and override its program for his own use.
As of now, he is expected to join the feast and warm up to everybody. Of course, Signum, Zafira, Shamal and Vita volunteered to watch over him. he may not look like it but he is part of The Yagami family from now on.
And so, dinner is served.
Of course, the thing is that even with a proper device, he still has no idea how to use Mid-Childan magic, so it wouldn't be that much use anyway. Unless...
Do cartriges count as a weapon? If so, then Shirou could probably trace them, and then expend them through a device in a Prana-Burst fashion.
Even if he cant do the magic for whatever reason he still gets all the history of the weapon, including the skills and ability to use it (at least physically), so he can at least fight without being a punching bag.
Oh and good snippet shikyo, ya need some full fights of the Nanoha cast vs the unstoppable black knight of the lake though.

You really want Shirou tracing mid-childan weapons don't you? Earth weapons even non-noble phantasm ones should be sufficient in terms of skill. At least the skill of a an infantry soldier.
@shikyo and Count: That's why I suggested to Hero that Shirou should go missing AFTER the Precia battle (Shirou dives in after her and ALL jewel seeds respond to Shirou's emotions, creates a reality marble and destroys the asteroid. Precia is saved, with a heavy heart while Shirou "disappears" after putting his body to the limit and releasing all that power.
Nanoha and Fate hold a funeral for Shirou and with the epilogue would have a boy standing on a hill, full of blades elsewhere (which meant that Shirou didn't die afterall and is somewhere elsewhere in the universe)
He would return either in A's or StrikerS (under the code name of 'Archer' under the employment of Jail, because he's already given up his ideals and he can safeguard Vivio himself because he no longer trusts the TSAB after discovering the corruption within the politics)
There, it puts his helplessness to badass level AND he also develops into an anti-hero character.
of course not, Noble Phantasms beat their weapons any day of the week, but unless the jewel seed does some crazy crap and gives him some epic legendary sword a replacement mid-childan weapon til the HGW wouldn't hurt.

I find myself much preferring the way Hero chose.
At the delicate age of 9? no offence but even as a badass the idea of kids that young wielding swords kinda awkward.

@shikyo: He's not wielding the swords. The jewel seeds are a catalyst right, and with all 21 responding at once, that is bound to do something, and with Shirou and Precia falling into that interdimensional abyss thingy, he practically destroyed it with his sword burst projection (he's willing as much swords to appear into his mind, thus projection)
And Shirou already wielded swords (even if they were weak ones) against Fate and almost killed her if they were proper weapons and if Shirou had the intent when he had only ONE seed.
