Except when she gets all hot and bothered with her killing intent rising, which fully resembles what I saw in the movies, she seems a lot less blank in her reactions.
To me, it makes the ways people reacted to and treated Shiki make more sense to me. The translation is colourful but it's interesting.

Yes I too think the translation is shit and uninteresting.
Hope Rides With His Godly Ronin/Cowboy Brother In Law
Start reading the Remaining Sense of Pain.
Start reading the explanation of psychic powers at the what is this shit? Why has the metaphor been changed from tv channels to poker? Why was it changed at all? When was it changed? Was it Taka Jun in his translation? Was it the second release of the novel?
If this is another example of localization I don't know if I will make it to read Oblivion Recorder. If he did change it I don't understand why he would have done so at all, the tv channel metaphor made so much sense, what is this gobbly gook about card games?
Edit: dear translators, if you don't think a joke is funny DO NOT CHANGE IT TO ANOTHER JOKE THAT IS ALSO NOT FUNNY.
Araya, what do you seek?
「アラヤ、何を求める」

It was channels in the movie too. (Gate of Seventh Heaven)
So I'm not crazy, so weird.

Still yet to finish reading this translation. Feeling like doing a rant on Record of Oblivion but for now I'll settle for
Mother Riesbyfe?!?! Surely not...
Seems to confirm it.Behind the closed doors of our class he was fond of going on and on, complaining about why his brother didn’t let him just—” a pause, and a gulp “—fuck the Mother Superior.
Riesbyfe - originally hot nun of Reien.
Oh yeah, I remember that reference.
Speaking of references, does anyone know if Azaka's roommate from the movie also existed in the novel? I was curious to see if Nasu reused her, or if ufotable reused her.

She is mentioned but only that. Same name, Seo.
Oh hush. Don't dispel my amusing image.
(heck, with the Takebouki mixnmatch machine Mother Superior Riesbyfe could very well look like Karen, Ciel or even a totally non church related character)
Still haven't completed reading yet, but am enjoying reading a translation of Record of Oblivion rather than a synopsis. One of the many things to note - Why does everyone about their age in present day assume that Shiki and Mikiya are going dating and why the heck does Mikiya never correct them? Or is the original Japanese that ambiguous?

So yeah been meaning to dump some questions after I finished reading but never got around to it.
First question off the top of my head, does the Japanese original put such an emphasis on Ryougi not aging from 16 years in the fourth novel? And if it does what is the explanation?
Is it:
a) (most probable) Araya's boundary field kept her from aging.
b) weird Ryougi family trickery they performed on her body.
I am guessing either way this is supposed to be the explanation for why her muscles and brain didn't atrophy. Correct?

I don't remember, does it actually say "Ryoudi does not age"?
Yes she apparently doesn't age the entire time she is in a coma, according to this translation she still has the body of a 16 year old girl.
Edit: "the only sign of aging being her longer hair" or something, I have it on a disc right now so I can't look right now.
it should be when Mikiya is talking to Touko.

@Lianru - I think she had a dog that died, but she eventually got a new one, though I don't think either actually appeared in the novels
(been awhile since I read Mirai Fukuin)
re. Unaging Shiki - aye, in this translation it says in Void Shrine that Shiki appears to not have aged at all other than hair growing out.
There's been comments and speculation in the novels, but I haven't come across anything definitive. The one that she's somehow on the boundary between dead and alive in a kind of stasis was interesting, though not entirely consistent with the hair growing.
Man, do you guys read all Nasu-related stuff like the Bible? I've gone through KnK a couple of times, all I remember from it is "hell ya epic fights". Every time you guys mention something, I have to look it up.
Now I will proceed to cut my wrist with a rusty butter knife.
