Well, he'll be using his sword.
*Badumtish~*
They fought in the castle, and at very least ended in the castle if the background is anything to go by. Or never left. If Herk can block a BP and not die from it, then good luck to Archer on having enough prana to keep pace with Herk. Ilya backed Herk ain't stopping anytime soon, so I bet on Herk to outlast Archer. Deploying UBW is different and pretty much Archer's only hope of overwhelming Herk enough to kill him multiple times and decisively.

@Hymn: My point is, he could have dragged the fight out into the forest and took advantage of that. Then it's just a matter of avoiding hits and Broken Phantasm shots.

Yeah....but he didn't, since the secnary in the aftermath of the battle is of Einzbern castle. So at least it's heavily implied that they're in the castle.
And while I'm tempted to say that piddly little trees aren't gonna slow Herk down, piddlier gravstones did slow Herk down in UBW. So meh. Meh I say, MEH!

I always viewed it as Archer keeping Herc inside the Castle, as if he left, he'd go after Saber, Rin, and Shirou. Basically, he held the fucking line.
lol nasu
My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.

Exactly. That'd the kind of death scene that makes me grin. And it's a good death scene for the plot, since EMIYA is not the hero of the story. He gets to be GAR, the protagonists get to have their moments, neither diminishes or overshadows the other.
Indeed it is.

So I wasn't the only one who thought that way when reading the scene? How about that.

Forest is a vampire who's a bit too good for her own good and doesn't know when to leave things alone. Armed with a ridiculously large hand gun, martial arts skills, a bitching pony car, and a love for pop culture she fights the forces of evil. Urban Fantasy 80's Style.

A cornered fighter is by far the most dangerous. Archer killed Herc six times in the VN without using UBW.
