"In the world where the taste and texture of food is everything... there is Toriko; a hunter of precious ingredients known as a Bishoku-ya (luxury food provider) regularly hired by restaurants and the rich. He is a man with inhuman skills and he is determined to capture the ferocious, evasive and rare animals and ingredients around the world to complete his ultimate dinner course. Alongside him is Komatsu, a timid chef who was inspired by Toriko's courage and strength. Together they embark on many journeys in this time of unusual and wonderful food. It is truly the Gourmet Era."
Well, I've started reading it (on chapter 95) and watched the OVA and some of the anime. The anime is not as good as the manga or the OVA but it's worth a look if you're a fan. I really like the manga so far, and I've got to say that it's one of the best shounens out there right now. Alongside Kongou Banchou of course.
This is our hero and protagonist, Toriko. He is a simple man with a big heart and an even bigger appetite. He is a homage to classic manga heroes like Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. He is gifted with a superhuman physique thanks to the Gourmet Cells in his body.
Toriko draws power from the calories in his body, and he is constantly evolving with every new enemy he encounters. The food he eats also effects the growth of his abilities, and rare foods can greatly boost his power--allowing him to develop new abilities and techniques.
