It only took (almost) 40 years, but we finally have a music video for "Plastic Love".



It's gotten to the point that I've heard so many covers of this song that it now sounds weird to hear the original again.

TBF the School Days VN wasn't even that bad, it was just painfully generic. If not for the anime giving it memetic god status the whole franchise would have drowned in its anonymity years ago.

As I recall the lyrics are like "stay the night / save my life" or something along those lines, and FSN is really fond of the sort of romantic-flavored Fuck or Die trope, so I always took it that way kind of. I got into Fate through UBW anime, so that was always in my mind.

I wonder if it has anything to do with original plans having nothing to do with being an eroge. Like having a creative mind for a specific type of story then having to figure out how to make people fuck and still not compromise on the type of story you want to tell.

I'm not the best Type Moon historian, especially not at this point, but I'm not sure that the "never intended to be an eroge" thing is regarded as widely or entirely true. Could be, but I think that the Fuck or Die trope being there in all three routes and being kind of thematically sound to each one:

Saber - Preventing her from dying for a while but her ultimately moving on anyway
Rin - Sharing something and allowing help from Rin
Sakura - Dark, weird, carnal, but ultimately very basic romantic in a way too

indicates that the story sort of fits around it in a way even if the H-scenes themselves are horribly written.

An interesting to read response like that is exactly why speculating in discussion is much more fun than talking to a historian. I enjoyed your take.
