shit BL says
Once and always and nevermore.
I really don't understand why people say that overpowered heroes are a bad thing. I mean, Journey to the West is a so-called "timeless classic", but the story straight up tells you that, unless demon of the week can not only defeat the 3 disciples but also kill some gods, Sanzang's success is a foregone conclusion. In other words, should the disciples be otherwise preoccupied, the gods themselves will come down and protect Sanzang directly.
I don't know how to best put it in words. I would imagine that people would get bored of that?
Spoiler:
Again, Journey to the West, the epitome of overpowered protagonists protected by overpowered plot device divinities, is considered a classic.
I don't think OP protagonists are necessarily a bad thing but then there has to be more drama to the story than just "will the OP protagonist stomp all over everything". In Journey To The West's case that would be retrieving the sacred scrolls and Wukong overcoming his faults to prove truly worthy of reentering heaven. Or a comedy like One-Punch Man can have an invincible protagonist work because the lack of tension is a joke in itself and the character is still "challenged" by his inability to ever find a truly satisfying fight.
Again, Sanzang retrieving the scrolls is a foregone conclusion unless there is a demon that can go all SMT and straight up fuck over God's (or rather Buddha's) vaunted "divine plan".
<NEW FIC!> Revolution #9: Somewhere out there, there's a universe in which your mistakes and failures never happened, and all you wished for is true. How hard would you fight to make that real?

Being on a work/school break without plans, goals, or an especially strong fixation kind of sucks.
Imagine that the world is made out of love. Now imagine that it isn’t.
Imagine a story where everything goes wrong, where everyone has their back against the wall, where everyone is in pain and acting selfishly because if they don’t, they’ll die.
Imagine a story, not of good against evil, but of need against need against need, where everyone is at cross-purposes and everyone is to blame.

From what I can see, George Lucas based the Jedi on Buddhist warrior monks, but does he know that he didn't just choose their "good" aspects? Like the Jedi, at a glance, Sanzang's disciples in Journey to the West are the "good guys", but also like the Jedi, upon closer inspection, they did some pretty fucked up stuff, and I don't mean as demon lords. I mean, the actions that they committed in monk's clothes. In terms of Sanzang's disciples, again, not only killing the half-demon children of the Yellow Robe Demon (and then forcing said Yellow Robe Demon to "repent", like being forced to "apologize" to your children's murderers) but also killing the tree immortals. Meanwhile, the Jedi committed the Sith (species) genocide. Compared to that, Order 66 and Nobu's fun, little romp on Mt. Hiei are nothing in comparison. If anything, isn't that what karma is? In other words, "I'm a clergyman" are no words to hide behind.

Know that I would never laugh at you, Sesto.
After watching Shiki, I suddenly don't feel bad about Ainz wiping out all the Workers in Overlord.
After watching Elfen Lied, I suddenly don't feel bad about Disgaea 1's Earth Conqueror ending.
After learning about the Sith Holocaust, I suddenly don't feel bad about Order 66.
After learning that several yokai killed by Sanzang's disciples were either straight up harmless or not lethally dangerous, I suddenly don't feel bad about Nobu's fun, little romp on Mt. Hiei.
You just listed having a few things going on, though.
I don't drink alcohol, really. I don't NOT drink it either but when I do drink it, my brain goes into over-compensation mode and it's not relaxing even slightly because I start freaking out about being able to drive in an hour or two or whatever. Designated driverless life.
And I don't have social engagements.

Sounds rough.
My issue is normally having too many things on the go that I can't decide which to focus on. So when I get a week off, I don't feel bad for just slacking off and doing whatever I want to do for that day. I don't have anime backing up on me, no new games for the next few months that means I have to blitz what I'm currently on, just sleep in, and tackle whatever I feel like that day.
