tbh I never look at the entries except ours before the Eurovision happens, you need the wtf factor and spontaneous ranking of entries.

Social media does kind of ruin that but its not like I'm invested enough to care THAT much.

Yeah, tbh watching all the entries like "wtf is this" is half the charm. That, and arguing that [other nominated song that wasn't chosen] should have been the one to go to the contest for your country, and wondering where tf they dug up the guy you're sending instead.

thats me with germany. Instead of choosing actual artists with experience, they fish someone out of the gutter. Last year wasn't even someone who was nominated. It was some dumb tiktoker that wanted in and somehow accomplished just that. Great Idea NDR, let someone with a dancing middle finger and the mindset of a 13yo represent us. Not even germany listened to his crap.
Without our P2W finale ticket, we wouldn't even be there most of the time.

Part of the charm of Eurovision is that a lot of the acts tend to be smaller/independent rather than a country's most well-known top sellers, a lot like how the Olympics used to be made up strictly of amateur athletes. Probably just like with the Olympics, Canada would complain that their independent musicians can't compete with European talent, and would demand that "professional" and "marketable" musicians be allowed to go. In the case of Eurovision though, this probably wouldn't give Canada as great an advantage as hoped. However, it'd probably have a degrading effect on Eurovision as a whole, which is why I've always been suspicious of Canadian and especially American attempts to join or, most recently, create a US-knockoff Eurovision.

I love Eurovision! Not just because of the campiness, but some of those songs are really fun (DJ Bobo's Vampires Are Alive and Pirates of the Sea's Wolves of the Sea immediately come to mind), and others are genuinely good! Flor-de-lis's Todas as ruas do amor is part of my playlist to this day, for example.

basically some guy that's also a maintainer of a package used as dependency by some big projects pushed code that when run on some machine with either a russian or belarusian IP, it wiped their hard drive by overwriting files with the heart emoji, iirc

he did this as a 'protest' against the russian-ukranian conflict, people were of course mad as this not only achieves basically nothing but also harms the open source community, the guy is also a bit full of himself, he even made a wiki page of himself he where dubbed himself 'the electric cowboy'

i was going to say he was doxxed, but he was actually an open book, people even found out he tried to cheat on his wife
