This is the primary misgiving I've always had.

Tapping into your animal side? I can get that. Wanting to be a cool wolf with lots of teeth? Sounds rad. But wait, why is your primary aesthetic big-eyed disney plushies? Look, I can't live out my primal, predatory urges while looking like a teletubbie. There's a highly infantile undercurrent to the whole movement, that's why you get diaperfurs and whatnot.

Someone once pointed out to me that "we're not like Disney animals, because in Disney movies they're just talking animals whereas furries are metaphors for humans".

Which is wrong, but the fact that this line of thought didn't immediately set off said furry's internal spellcheck means the assertion does tell me something interesting.

My guess is that Goofy was created to be Mickey's friend, and when it was time to give Mickey a pet, the fact Goofy is a dog went under the radar because he walks on two legs.

Modern news has so little… “news” in it. And, when there actually is some, the news companies always try to put some sort of a political spin on it. Nothing is neutral. Facts are buried by an opinion-heavy writing format filled to the brim with pathos and logical fallacies. Very often you will see stories where the authors try to make a huge deal over something minor and relatively unimportant. I have to go to ten different news sites to piece together what’s actually going on, and every single story is missing details or adding opinions to skew the story one way or another. It is very, VERY annoying.

I completely disagree and I knew someone was going to try and pull this gotcha. Furries are entirely based in the realm of cartoons - fursuits all have anime eyes for a reason. A werewolf is "what if you crossed a man with a wolf" and there's a completely different psychology behind it to boot.

Ok but shepherds and sheep have had a special relationship loooong before tv, radio, or even moving type were invented.

Which is why I only read a newspaper I vehemently disagree with. Really trains you to parse out bullshit. Not because it's the only newspaper the rich owners approve of because of it's "fuck taxes, the poor are scary" bent.

They even criticized the conservative leader today, before launching into some q-anon conspiracy theory that the prime minister sexually assulted high school girls. Which they preceded with it being an unfounded impossible to prove rumour, then launch into ten paragraphs about it.

If you can figure out the political slants to these newspapers, you might be qualified enough to take a 1st year university History course. "Modern" has little to do with the absolute critical poverty of most journalism. As Mark Twain said around the same time as these articles, "That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse." There is nothing new under the sun etc etc.
