Yes, I too have zero skill in something I never do to build up my skill.
Localizationing stuff
It's okay, a lot of people aren't great at cooking! The important part is not to be great, but to be good enough that you can produce tasty things simple and cheap.
I know how to cook a decent number of things but usually I don't care enough to feed myself so I either resort to student restaurants or go hungry.
My attempts at being a (fanfic) writer:
Eclipse - a Saber Alter oneshot
Requiem for a Race - Altrouge and Ortenrosse hunt the TAs ( 1/3 chapters, discontinued )

How exactly did you mess up? Rice is probably one of the easiest things to make I can think of.
