If I tried harder I probably could have picked up a 2060 around 280 instead of 330. Can always end up returning it because 1 month return policy. Not like I can assemble the PC yet because have to get the CPU from my sister who lives 6 hours away, though we usually travel to see each other a couple times a year so will grab it then.

Fucking crypto though jacking up prices. A 3070 would be nice, but if I'm paying near 800 I'll wait for a 4060/70 or hope the Intel alchemist line ends up delivering on their 3070 performance for less than 500 USD.

Apparently, the chokehold on GPUs might be ending relatively soon. Combined with Nvidia 4000s releasing later this year, it could be worthwhile to wait a bit. A 2060 isn't bad, but 6GB VRAM is really limiting and you'll save more money in the long run by putting together something that'll last as a reliable gaming machine for a while.

Yeah, been seeing that mentioned before, but with how slow prices are falling, I'm not sure we'll get the 30 series anywhere near msrp by the time the 40 series comes out. I'll probably just sit on the 2060 for now since I'll have a month to return it for full refund + no shipping costs.

That said, the 40 series have their own concerns (still speculation, and releasing on April 1st isn't helping much), such as how power hungry they're expected to be (4070/4080/4090 I've seen mentions of 400W/500W/600W TDP) + the 4090 expected to release at ~1900 USD, which would imply a much larger increase in cost for the lower rung cards. Still, If a 4060 ends up performing similar to a 3090 at 400-500 USD, probably just settle for that rather than go for a 4070.

That was my suggestion: let the bourgeoisie eat up their excessively extravagant caviar and 4090s and get a 3000 under their noses. Worst case scenario, higher-end 2000 cards will become much more affordable and available. I've got a 2070 and while it's serviceable, it's far from ideal and I'd like to jump up to a 3080 once they're not $1000.

I mean, I'd still aim to get a 40 series. The reason I went for that 850W PSU beyond that it was on sale for 80 bucks between online discount, promo code, and mail-in rebate was because I figured it'd be able to handle a 4070 even with the higher than expected TDP. The Intel Alchemist line could be a good alternative, but their laptop gpus haven't impressed yet, plus they don't currently support ray tracing, let alone match what DLSS can do.

Managed to get the 2060 for 10 USD cheaper from ASUS on ebay than ASUS on amazon, could have been 20 USD but the 1 fan version sold out before I could finish putting in my purchase information. Surprised that the 2070S from ASUS on ebay isn't that bad a price point (~435USD), though still over 40 USD of what I'd want to spend on it for a temp card while waiting for the newer cards this year.

Hopefully ASUS forcibly dropping prices will lead to others doing the same rather than scalpers being scalpers.

but i definitely agree, very good game with amazing atmosphere. great ost, too. i really like this one especially, despite it only playing in a small area which is largely irrelevant to most of the game. those small moments tended to be what hit the most in disco elysium, at least for me

Ever since Elden Ring came out and I realized that my 2013 computer couldn't run it, decided to build a new computer. Think I managed to get some decent deals from all these, as my pre-tax total came out to be around 1220 USD for everything due to deals that aren't being shown on pcpartpicker anymore + crypto bullshit driving up prices on CPUs and GPUs. Been debating getting a 2060/70 or waiting until the 40 series comes out, but figure I could resell the 2060 even after the 40 series release or just give it to someone else I know with a worse GPU (eg. 1660S, 1060) as a christmas gift.

I've been trying to build a new one for a year or so now too, but the bullshit GPU prices just kept walling me off.
Now I got a 3070 at a decent price (though off a manufacturer hardly anyone knows about, which is a worrying prospect) I'm in the process of ordering parts like a madman. It's ran me up 1600€ already (700 for the GPU alone) but finally getting into next-gen gaming without having to compromise on settings (at least for a few years) will be worth it.
