When you get down to subtexts you're right. But you can't really argue that Lord Voldemort is a misunderstood hero. You can argue for how he represents all different sorts of violent and systemic oppression, but not that what he's doing is in any way justified.


I know that argument is jumping right to Wizard Hitler, but I've seen way too many fanfictions which try to paint the Death Eaters as noble crusaders protecting their traditions. Better written characters get much more leeway, especially when the character is at least trying trying to be a hero.

Ι mean yeah, that is clearly one interpretation of the work. At the end of the day it's literally ALL subjective, it's just a matter how far you're willing to entertain your conversation partner's point of view.

I was watching Jujistsu Kaisen this week and got to thinking, do Tokyo and Kyoto use the same Kanji in their names just reversed order?

So recently I lost my high school diploma, and to make a replacement for it, I need to contact my old friends that I have never met for 3 years at the minimum as testifiers of my credibility as the real person/owner of the lost diploma. It's involved lots of complicated steps, not to mention a photocopy of their own diploma and their signature of it, and I am currently living overseas from them, and covid. Both of them decided to send those documents and their signature right away and I just got both of them today and clear the things I needed from it.

I have very great friends... I don't know how to repay them. I sent them some food and chocolates and souvenirs but I feel like it is not enough.

According to Wikipedia, FWIW:
Kyōto = 京都 ("capital city")
Tōkyō = 東京 ("eastern capital")
Tokyo's official name is Tōkyō-to (東京都, "eastern capital city").

So they're just homophones. I was kind of hoping they were just lazy and rearranged the name, since it's stupid enough to be funny.

That said, as long as you ignore all the plot and dialogue, the movie is really pretty and the action pieces are well shot. It's the exact opposite of how GITS should be, but it has more generic appeal. At least according to my friend I dragged to it, who had no previous exposure to GITS.

That may be the case, but I'm not going to forget what they purport to actually be adapting because of a couple pretty explosions. """"Edge of Tomorrow""""" would probably be an ok Hollywood time-waster if I hadn't read All You Need Is Kill, but I did, so all I got out of it was alternating impotent frustration and seething rage.

That one I actually enjoyed. It would have been better if they had stuck to the manga/book ending and went bittersweet, but they had to got and Hollywood up the third act a bunch. Still the last 1/3 didn't suck enough to invalidate the first 2/3 in my view.

As you know, the Elder Scrolls games are one of the very few western works that I like. However, I also realized that Dies Irae is one of the few Japanese works that I like in the same way as Elder Scrolls. In other words, Dies Irae has both the themes of Elder Scrolls that I like, along with the positive fact that it is a Japanese work. Apart from my previous comparison of Dies Irae and Elder Scrolls (like how the Morag Tong to the Dark Brotherhood is like the Schutzstaffel to the Longinus Dreizehn Order, or a baser desire of mine of wanting Babette and Rusalka to walk all over me), I find another similarity. Achieving CHIM in the Elder Scrolls series is like achieving Ewigkeit in Dies Irae, in that it requires a certain degree of ego. Basically, the opposite of that stupid line in Yugioh (where Jonouchi/Joey is trying to console Anzu/Tea about Atem passing on) that says "you don't have to understand it; you just need to accept it). CHIM is knowing and understanding how the universe works but having the ego to refuse acceptance of it. People with weak egos obviously zero-sum when they realize understanding and then sheepishly accept.

Ewigkeit is the ability of someone to overwrite the world's laws with their own cravings or desired world (using the souls of those they slay, but that's another story). Therefore, someone who just accepts the world's laws as is would have a very hard time achieving Ewigkeit. For example, in Kasumi route, where Ren is unable to achieve any significant power, Trifa consoles him saying that he should take some pride in that, as it shows that Ren is a "normal person".

I love the elder scrolls lore, but my god, I find the base gameplay to be boring. That being said, I still managed to play 100 some hours of it, so it can't be all bad.

What would be best is if a Japanese company took over more making the details, such as individual stories and gameplay, where following the overall lore of the original western games. I don't feel like decorating for Christmas on my own, but it's either this or get Disapproving Glances from the neighbours (well, maybe they won't care and I'll just be imagining the disapproval, but all the same). Can't deny watching the little lamps and garlands everywhere is kind of uplifting, though.

I mean, I don't know how close your neighbourhood is, but even if they did know about it what could they do?

Mind you, throwing a party when most of the world is on lockdown IS an asshole move regardless, just not for that reason.
