I may be blunt by saying that but I don't think that, by itself, Ufotable staff is able to properly make it. Up until now they only copied the script. They are fairly "ok" when we talk about animating a novel. Changing it to makes it suitable on a tv is really hard and they've (if I'm not wrong) never done it before.

What are they changing in relation to the novel (the RN version that is)?

As for adapting something that wasn't adapted beforehand: KnK.

Well no not really, because most of the time when people talk about GiTS they're really talking about SAC, which is indeed better than the Akira film. The GiTS film however, is not, and the Akira manga is better than any version of GiTS.

Hmm I personally prefer use of a recognizable visual style that's stuck to and it being used in harmony with what the story is telling at the specific moment, even if the animation is not the most advanced fpsfest with shiny lights and loads of post. In that regard KnK is superior both to Zero and UBW, even if maybe the fights look flashier and more spectacular in the latter. I liked UBWs animation regardless, since it's well done as a product, but it just doesn't have that something extra.

I have some FAINT hopes HF will at least maybe try doing something like this. The flower motifs and the somewhat consistent colour palette they're using in the promo materials is too little to base any hopes on, I realize, but still.

That's what I said. They changed nothing, and here HF needs to be changed. Up until now what was animated and earned a good amount of money was KNK, F/Zero and UBW. Mainstream anime fight with a certain amount of interesting talk = their public. The first part of HF will be uninteresting for that public, that's why for me HF needs to be changed. or at last the first part.

Eh, sorry but I have to disagree.

It's part of something therefore it affects the quality and enjoyment of a work.

Just because I can skip sex-scenes doesn't magically not make them a part of the work/story.

It's like saying that the gameshow episode doesn't affect the rest of Ergo Proxy.

I don't think having porn in the film would affect its general quality, really; I'm sure it'll be interesting either way, but we'll have to see how well it does to capture the good parts of HF rather than being kind of a shallow adaptation overall.
