Alcohol can be like a strong spice, adding some flavour to moments of your life when you want it and if you want it. It's good for heightening your emotions, enhancing your mood, and reducing your inhibitions. If you're smart, it shouldn't impair your rational thinking, though it'll destroy your motor skills and make you fear bright lights more than a vampire, so it's easy to end up thinking you can do things your body just isn't up to. If drinking causes you to black out, you need to break up your swigs of the water of life with some solid food, and also some real water. But alcohol alone won't fundamentally mess with your perception of reality like psychedelics will.

I think I've only gotten blackout drunk once, but that was a combination of headwound, and my boss feeling guilty about said headwound.

That was a fun staff party. It earned me free drinks at every subsequent party, just by bringing up it up to him. Or at least to new hires who weren't around at the time. "Yeah sure this party is popping, but did you know last year X crack my head on the patio? What's that, boss? Sure! I've never had a Jagerbomb before."

This is what I thought when I was a teenager too. I don't think they're amazing and wonderful, but they can definitely lead to interesting experiences. I've done big brain techniques like self-hypnosis and lucid dreaming, but nothing you can get up to sober can compare to how psychedelics affect the totality of your senses, and you can't really give an explanation of it to someone who hasn't gone through it themselves. I can absolutely see how whole religions were founded off this stuff.

I think the only time I've been blackout drunk was when I first started drinking. It was the last night before I was leaving Japan. We were all on the beach and I had a wine bottle in my hand just drinking without thinking about anything, and in the end had to be carried back to the hotel because it was so bad. We spent the day after with our 'supervisor' from the university visiting cultural sites and stuff and it was probably the worst day of my life as I was dying the entire day.

Given my first time drinking alcohol was this trip, I think it just taught me a valuable lesson on knowing my limits. Don't think I've ever woken up with my body regretting how much I drank the previous night since then. I just regret what I post on the internet instead haha!

That first day overdoing it is always a learning moment. You realize that going ham when you have things to do is a BAD IDEA. Most people's 'one alcohol they never touch' comes from that night.

I pretty regularly get buzzed but I wouldn't say I was ever properly drunk, let alone blackout drunk. This I mostly own to the fact that I refuse to drink actual alcohol because it tastes like garbage to me, so the only alcohol I do drink is shit like apple cider.

Also the reason why I don't drink coffee.
