The "original" series (a meaningless distinction; the manga was never formally split) had the Piccolo Daimaoh and the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai arcs, it's automatically better than Z.

The anime became Z at the Saiyan Saga.

I think of Dragonball much like people would perhaps of Seinfeld. It's hugely influential (especially outside of Japan) in spreading the aesthetics and structure of the standard battle manga, but its not particularly interesting to me these days. And I say that as someone whose very first manga was Dragonball. Back when I was a kid (around 10-12?) I was truly obsessed with it.

I know, and in many ways, it was a good split; not only did the ending of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai feel too much like a series finale, but the post-Piccolo arcs feel too different from the earlier ones both thematically and aesthetically. I just think it helps to remember that everything was "conceived" as a single, continuous storyline; it emphasises how bonkers the plot actually is.

And I know what you mean - I was obsessed with Saint Seiya as a kid, to the point of blowing off friends to watch reprises, and last time I tried to watch it, it was just so... Bland.

This reminds me that I am both great at fitting an unsurmountable amount of things in tiny spaces, yet am even better at procrastinating shelf installation. I feel bad for the games that have sat beneath my desk for almost a year.

Got my Covid booster today, and while the actual appointment was the easiest thing ever the run around to get it was a pain in the ass. To start with three weeks ago when it opened up to my age group, the first appointment I could book was mid March through the government portal. So I put my name down on the local pharmacy's waiting list, in case they have earlier times. They take two weeks to get back to me with open appointments, and when I open up the email to book a time, every slot is greyed out with no appointments available. Then yesterday I get an email saying there's a pop-up clinic at the local rec centre. There's open appointments all day and for the next week, so I grab one for today. I get there and try to sign in, and the nurse looks at me like I'm crazy and says it's a walk in, there are no appointments.

It feels like my health care system is trying to gaslight me.
