Also, am I the only one who thought Weiss's VA was awful during the early scenes? She was fine back at Beacon with the backstory, argue-with-Blake stuff, but while they were walking through the streets of Vale she sounded like she was reading a list of words with no idea that they were made into sentences that conveyed meaning and stuff.

The voice acting and script certainly had ups-and-downs.


Bad lines:
> Weiss: "Oh, the amount of planning and organization that goes into this event is simply breathtaking!"
> Sun: "Huhuhuhuhahahahahahaha..."
> Weiss: "Quick! We have to observe him!"


BEST lines:
> Weiss: "And, as a representative of Beacon, I feel as though it is my solemn duty to welcome them to this fine kingdom."
- Blake: "She wants to spy on them, so she'll have the upper hand in the tournament."
- Weiss: "Ugh, you can't prove that."

I noticed over at the RT comment thread on this episode that everybody in sight was referring to the two cops as being an in-joke to something, "Burnie" and a guy whose name started with J. Can anyone explain the joke?

Burnie Burns, director of roosterteeth and VA of Church, and Joel Heyman, VA of Caboose and Professor Sonic, both often play cops in the roosterteeth shorts, whenever it is necessary that cops appear on screen.

Or she, like many young people in real life, didn't join until she was a young woman and the group had chosen violent tactics well before she joined. Here's what can probably be considered definite:

Based on the reporter's comment in episode 1 the White Fang was originally a peaceful group.
Following from that, they later in life chose to pursue their goal through violent tactics.
From Weiss' comments about the influence of their tactics on her father and Blake not calling it false we can assume that the shift to violent tactics happened, at the latest, when Weiss was maybe ten or so and probably was even earlier than that considering Weiss' description of how it so thoroughly impacted her childhood.
Blake was a member of the White Fang for an uncertain amount of time.
During a train attack that Blake was involved in Blake chose not to follow Adam's orders but instead save the crew of the train. This might have been the first mission she was on or it might not. Based on physical appearance it seems likely that it was only a short time after the attack that Blake decided to pursue a life as a Huntress instead.

Um, Blake is kind of technically already a young woman? I mean, she's seventeen. Unless she joined White Fang at like, fourteen or fifteen, but at that point I don't think she'd be considered a 'young woman'.

Soooo, on a re-watch, I am leaning more and more toward Penny being a robot. Or, I dunno, a homunculus or a golem or something. Whatever this universe has. She has a very mechanical feeling to her dialogue, and her outfit features what I can't help but feel are Tron Lines. Plus, I wonder if 'Penny' is meant to evoke the starting syllables of 'Pinnochio'?

If she is, then she might be connected to Roman, because Pinnochio is where his character was inspired from(Romeo Candlewick/Lampwick).

She might just be his killer attack bot, and right now she's in a 'dormant' mode. Then she goes all terminator like when Roman orders her to attack.
