I feel dumb for not having made the sorceress connection. Succession of Witches is now playing in my head.
I just rewatched the end of the episode again, and I really have to hand it to the animators for the little quirks from the rest of Team RWBY. Especially Ruby's horrified little rocking motion.
Huh. I seriously doubt Neo can pull off illusions affecting people on that scale. It would make more sense if she could manipulate perception but then Yang had already moved away so how does the camera recording make sense lol. Unless she made her think she moved, which seems a bit.. off.

I'm not convinced on the Emerald point simply because we haven't seen any indication she can do that sort of thing, unlike Neo, and the latter has been conspicuously absent ever since the elimination round. I guess we'll find out.

Neo's schtick seems to be all about reflections and mirror imagery. I'm thinking Emerald has straight up illusion powers, which let her put the mind whammy on Yang while it looked like she just went berserk to the world at large.
See "Neo has been conspicuously missing since the elimination round". And there was an empty seat next to Cinder that seemed to have been purposely focused on for a second.
Emerald could have some power of that sort though, I suppose. Mind whammy/direct perception twisting would make more sense than illusionary whatever.

Not bad at all for a mid-season finale. We FINALLY get some of the greater plot rolling as well as a suspicious and appropriate cliffhanger. By far the best episode of the season and one of the tops in the series so far, at least for me.

It seemed like something out of those Contest Battles in the Pokemon anime for me.
Regarding the whole Yang affair, couldn't she just have dodged? I know that illusion bullshit will still mess things up, but still.
