    A judgement of Gosick

A friend recommended I watch this... and here is my judgement.

Note: I recently watched LOGH right before Gosick, so I might be... biased.

    Storyline (10/20)
    -Depth/Profoundness 4/10
Gosick feels similar, overall to the generic Sword Art Online style comedy/romance. While the Sakura-level horror that happened to Victorique & her mother attempts to provide a jarring contrast, overall, the intent/meaning of the story is still pretty shallow.

    -Structural Integrity/Flow 6/10
The story of Gosick is fairly consistent, and its flows well, for the most part. However, the ending was pretty confusing, and it gives the impression this show was originally planned for 25 episodes, and got cut to 24.

    Music (19/20)
    -Opening/Endings 10/10
Holy crap. The music is beautiful. The first ending, Resucitated Hope is one of the most beautiful anime endings I have ever listened to... and fits incredibly well with the premise of this story.
Bones doesn't pay Lisa Komine enough. I really can't ask for more.

    -Other Music 9/10
The scenic/event music evokes the right feelings, at the right time, at the right strength, just making the scene stronger.

    Characters (8/20)
    -Character Design 4/10
What. Both the main characters are somewhat detestable. Kujo has moments of (minor) badassery, but is a complete wimp around Victorique.

I don't care how compatible/awesome or 'destined' you guys are, no man should tolerate her physical/verbal abuse, or her general lack of respect.

And that brings me to Victorique... Your crush saved your life 3 times in the first case alone, and then you guys held hands afterwards! I was all like "D'awww" then the very next episode you go around kicking him and calling him stupid! What the fuck is this shit?!?!

I mean, these retards for main characters are incredibly adorable during rare moments, where I'm cheering for them, but for the majority of the anime I have a burning need to defenestrate them... repeatedly.

    -Character Development 4/10
Very little early on, mostly with Victorique acknowledging that shes actually human and has feelings. Then the last 2 episodes come and she instantly grows up & stops being a cunt?!?

Also, the Roscoe brothers last minute life revelations in the last episode... Yeah, it feels like this anime got cut one episode.

    Art (17/20)
    -Character Art 9/10
The character's art is extremely fitting for their personalities; first impression of Kujo = kind-hearted guy at core, that look in Victorique's eyes in the opening just screams 'searching', the teacher gives the impression of a airheaded accidental troll, etc et al.

I like the character art design. The semi-tousled look of Kujo, that godly flowing hair of Victorique's, and the viviant, avid look of Avril all feel right, for some reason.

    -Other Art/Animation 8/10
Both the setting and scene design fit well with the story. It has quite the 'quaint charm'.

    Memorability (18/20)
This is hard to describe or justify, since different people will remember different things.

Its not Fate/Tsuki, but this story is Code Geass memorable for me. It could have been so much better that I'm a little mad, but this anime is not bad.

Perhaps I'm just an uncultured sap, easily pleased by cute couples.

    Final Score 72/100

I tried watching this and found it to be just too boring to continue. Maybe if you are a loli-fetishist you can get into it more, but I just couldn't be bothered. Sorry.

you arent very familiar with Light Novels or Light Novel based Anime, are you? lots of your points, like the mainly dialogue-based /boke-tsukkomi based humour and the tsundere little girl are long-running staples of nearly every Light Novel and LN based Anime.
as for the pacing i have to disagree, the first half was incredibly rushed (because it wa originally meant to be 12 eps), the later half was rather well paced.
what i dotn understand is what exactly did you find so confusing about the end? also nobody "suddenly grew up", between their last meeting and the end scene lies a whole world war.

the beginnign is incredibly rushed. i advice you to read the novels and only start watching from the last 6 or so episodes on, because then the pacing was actually well done.

That doesn't make it not tired and over done.

Entire end arc felt like it contained too many ass pulls and was an unsatisfying ending.

I watched this when it was airing. Didn't finish it but I sorta liked it. Problem was it was airing at the same time as the original Korewa and Madoka Imma check what else oh Level E and Infinite Stratos. This was when the earthquake happened, okay that's why. Earthquake happened which caused me to not finish any oof these besides Madoka (I finished Level E's manga). I remember the OP being good.

never said that; just that its not worth getting so worked up on and listing up when its a staple anyways.
and i, for once, like the dialogue-based humour boke tsukkomi humour. some do that really well.

well kay, its your life. it was just an advice in case you found it interesting enough to want to enjoy it better. then through beginnign that squashed a full novel in two episodes regularly.

This is funny because he prefaced his review by saying he had just watched a light novel based anime.

I never did get over this, personally. I liked the characters, though, rushed or not. It just wasn't as deep at mystery as I'd hoped.

Uh, I said the last 2 episodes... which includes the christmas episode. She was remarkably mature in that episode... whereas, in the previous episode, she was still acting like a little kid.

I've read multiple LNs; FMP, SAO, Heavy Object, Campione, etc... Admittedly, tsundere-humor is common, but there is a line between tsundere (Say, Asuna from SAO) and just abuse (which Victorique from Gosick approaches)

This seperates good LNs from bad LNs, in my not-so-humble opinion.

ive completely forgotten that episode, but just from the feel i'd guess its because of havign different motivation on christmas? christmas in japan has more the "couplees trieng to get laid" valentine feel than the "family trieng not to kill each other" feel it has for us, which anime generally like to put on stories with focus on couples, even if they play in times or countries completely removed from the japanese feel fo christmas. i remember Chrno Crusades christmas episode, the shota demon and the demon hunter girl running around in santa/ reindeer costumes in the late 1920's as if it was the most natural thing in the world..

as for english copies, i dunno about that, but i know that Tokyopop had brought out translated volumes in germany more than 6 or 7 years ago, it would seem kinda strange if that was one-sided considering the USA get all the official translated LN action otherwise (well and china)

as for the end still feeling rushed i can only imagine they wanted people to buy the final book sicne the anime was finished simultaneously with the final book.

I enjoyed Gosick. The art and music were well done, and the mysteries had a real Sherlock Holmes vibe to them. Always starting off as supernatural and turning out mundane.

I'm not a loli fetishist, neither do I have a thing for tsunderes.

That was until I saw Gosick, and I totally liked the girl. Enjoyed the series, though they start off with some really lame "mysteries", they move on to fun parts. And it's fun. And goth tsundere.

Ratings are heresy. Measuring all that in numbers... is not accurate or even informing. There are only two or three ratings I can possibly relate to - "liked" and "didn't like". (That is, not counting the "This hurts my eyes/brain/ears"). And it's definitely in the "liked" part.
