I didn't know that spoiler was an actual spoiler (it is) but hey, the only thing I took out of that was something Gabriellos already spoiled in this thread (thanks again) so it's not too bad.

Its not a matter of "version" when you can literally hear the character say it like that.

I think this mentality is bad. Just because the Japanese are using loan words you recognize doesn't mean that you're obligated to use those same loan words in your translation.

But if the loan word fits the translated context without looking out-of-place then there's no reason to not use it.

But if you have something that makes as much sense or more sense, you can absolutely change it, as long as you keep the same idea there. I mean, if we're talking about that esper thing, if it were me, I totally would've changed it to psychic because that's just more common for me in English when you're talking about these things.

Stop making general statements when talking about translation, capturing nuances is more important than keeping terms.

That said I don't really care either way here, the difference in terms is Arcane Eyes/Mystic Eyes tier whogivesafuck.

Yeah I saw them. People in the ADTRW thread were mad about it. I would probably have been too if I didn't already know (I would be if someone did SDR2) but here I just think it's funny. In particular I think it's hilarious that Zorak's response was "deal with it or by the no-ads upgrade." So whoever did it found the one kind of Dangan Ronpa trolling that the staff will do absolutely nothing about because CASH MONEY IN THE BANK. Apparently people do the same with the Game of Thrones TV threads, buying book spoiler avatars for people.

This, it drives me up the wall when people just leave weird Engrish loanwords as-is.

Not to defend PZ's work, but the if that's your issue with it then let it be known that the titles in japanese are as ridiculous as PZ's translation. Danganronpa is a stupid series that takes itself seriously and that's why it's awesome.

Danganronpa is not a dark and gritty DEEP story. It's just mystery, with FUN.
