Yeah it was.
And maddening's still hard.

I was about to react when I saw Edelgard's entry in the Villains wiki.
Then I saw Cao Cao and Sima Yi in that wiki, too, and I grinned.
Then I saw their sons in the Heroes wiki, and I smiled.
Then I saw Ieyasu Tokugawa in the Villains wiki, and I laughed.
thats reasonable

I hope that the confident jerk version of Alcryst is a poser and fought at level 1, since base game support wise he's pretty good at quite a few things and he made me at least a b rank meal or so.
apparently final dlc sucks major fucking dick in every gameplay aspect
but you do get this

I dunno, most of the complaints make it seem like it's just that it's hard on Maddening?
Though the divine paralogues scaling up if you get the four winds early is a legit problem, seems like the DLC should've been locked until later on.
if there's anything I've learned by watching Mangs solo Maddening with Yunaka and Alear like they're Robin and Chrom, it's that DLC makes the game insanely easy. Making stuff scale up would be a good thing.
if it was legitimately hard it would be fine, the issues are, obviously, why its hard
1) the dlc is locked into casual mode. Thus, it was not designed to be played in classic mode. Now, by itself that means nothing, but one can see how it might have affected dlc balancing.
2) dlc has no effect on main campaign, nothing carries over. The deployed characters are from your roster, locked to a static level (and inventory?). Hounds are completely static, not sure if you can customize inventory of your characters.
The issue is the same main game has: early units are awful, late units are good. Since the levels are static, the stat spread is incredibly severe.
3) You do get inherited skills and any available emblems and bracelets. So if you do the DLC when you have none - it would be completely different than doing it past endgame. So in a sense, DLC is soft-locked till later and gets easier with your main campaign progress.
You can now see where the balancing issues come from. Its gimmick emblem, except its not gimmick emblem. And, apparently, you have do to it on every playthrough if you want the hounds, which is just mindboggling. On the other hand, DLC has separate difficulty selection, so you can just drop it down and breeze through if you want.
Or mod it out, as i would prefer. Hopefully, someone makes one.

Once and always and nevermore.
The combat was not doable for me mid-story, it was not a question of not knowing what to do

And given how much you probably need to spend on units you may not be using in main campaign, the only reasonable strategy for that map is veronica cheese anyway, since you get reprisal inherit cost refunded via rewards, there is no reason to do it "the intended" way anyhow

Finally finished my first Three Houses Maddening run. Only took literal years since I started it. Gameplay wasn't too hard, except for the early game and especially chapter 5. The Monastery on the other hand was still too tedious, at one point I made 1 preperation error and decided to toss 3 hours saved or so away to restart that month and it's all cause I wanted to fish for the Goddess Messenger and forgot to do. I assumed I did it saved and proceeded to the end of the month where I doubled checked after doubting if I really did it. Best units by battle started and won were Sylvain, Shamir and Catherine. I think Byleth and Hilda were speed screwed, but it was manageable.
Surprisingly In did most of this run recently, but before that it dragged on like crazy, because I couldn't force myself to do all the chores in game. I think around chapter 8 I started doing really well in combat and the enemies seemingly only caught up to my skill combo around chapter 18 when hit rates got a bit shakier and brave combat arts sometimes didn't oneshot. Even softlock by daybreak was easy.
Fishing sucks, especially to grind professor level and so does cooking why do current video games love these?
