But those countries run on piracy as far as movies, software and videogames go, I know because I live in one!

    ...And that is why the e-Shop won't sell anything here, I guess. ;____;

    I know that feel.
Games and consoles here are extremely expensive as well, and even if we order from web and it's taken by customs (which supposedly they make us pay 60% of the value, but sometimes they wanna make us pay more than this), it's worth it. The problem is.. We're very known for having a lot of lost parcels due to the shit service of our post offices, so some websites don't like to ship here or make us pay a more expensive shipping value.
And then the government make an anti piracy campaign and announces the customs will tax EVERYTHING next year. How so?? How can we not download or import things if when we wanna buy a 3ds game, it costs around U$$100 or more and a PS4 console costs $2000? I wanna blow up the president house.
Do you have this same problem?

Hmm...well, not quite as bad as that, but yeah. Taxes on imported goods, limitations to how much you can bring into the country, taxes to stuff bought online I've heard, and everything here either costs twice or three times as much as its original price. And the occasional tale of customs trying to take your imported stuff away because "it goes over the limit" (i.e. you're unlucky).

Plus, the rampant piracy, though it seems our culture has embraced it, more than anything. Unless it's a national product, but who would want those?

Adding to what Kaiza said... As far as I can tell games are 15 or 25 USD more expensive here than in USA, so games are not as expensive here as they are in Artee's country. Consoles are about 100 or 200 USD more expensive than in USA so that hurts (though you can buy them modded for about that price as well). Mind you, I usually don't buy things here, I look for people who travel to USA and have them bring me what I want, one thing at a time.

I remember seeing 3DS and Wii games at $70 and PS3 games at around $90-$100. (And PSP games at around $50).
    Yeah...

It also doesn't help that we don't really have a large used-game market, or that games don't seem to lose value as time goes on. They keep the same price almost all the time. Though, I guess it also varies a bit from store to store; I do remember the official Sony store having some relatively cheaper prices.

Also, I almost never buy stuff here either, I mostly buy online.

If I even search a lot I can find cheaper games (in the downtown, out of a mall), but the average is this. Mostly if I buy something at a mall, for example. Things there are super expensive. I usually do the same as you, but surprisingly, I bought my Pokemon X version for the same price as the US here + free shipping, but this only because I could get a pre-order promotion with limited quantities.

Well, what I do is asking people to declare a lower value, to try to avoid taxes. But I'm 'afraid' to order bigger things (like a console, even if it's portable).
Last year I bought a 3DS XL special edition in the US for U$199, a friend of mine bought here the same one 4 months later, and he paid like U$$550. Of course he was dumb because he didn't even search for good prices and bought it at the mall, which sells things even more expensive. He preferred buying it there because he couldn't pay in cash. But I had found the same console in the downtown for like $450 (still expensive, but less), however, they only accept payments in cash. He didn't want to save money and wait a little more to have this discount, so.. The problem isn't mine, I tried to help.
So, even this shop in the downtown who had it in a less expensive price, was selling it for more than the ordinary XL's, just because it was a special edition (which costs about the same in the US). I asked him about the abusive price and he said "ah.. it's because of the high tax rates things have when arrive here". then I told him "well.. in the US it costs about the same price as the ordinary 3DS XL, why is it A LOT MORE more expensive than it here?" He didn't know what to say.
That's another problem, people here like to make abusive and unfair profits. Greed is really a bitch.

There's a reason I spent like crazy on games when I went to the US last year. Not even counting used games, those were even cheaper.

My country imposes a tax on anything electronic shipped from other countries. I purchased my copy of P4 Arena online with free shipping, I ended up paying over twice the price because of tax.

So.. tax is kinda.. mandatory over there? At least here we have a chance to avoid it by asking people to declare things as gift and with a lower value, but they take a long time to arrive.

Yes you did. If you can pay in cash it's always better because of the little discounts, credit cards can be rather... expensive in the long run.

Mandatory. Pisses me off. Never ordered physical game copies online again after that, only manga...

And the ones I got had a $35 shipping fee.
